Digital Photo Frames Slide Scanners

No Nonsense

The Jeemak WiFi Digital Photo Frame is a no-nonsense product. At times, these digital frames come with countless unnecessary features that bloat up the price, drain the battery, and make these devices more convoluted than they should be. This is not the problem we're facing with this model though. Quite the opposite, everything that this device features has a straightforward purpose that most users would benefit from. To start with, the frame automatically rotates, which is nothing new but, without this feature, switching between vertical and horizontal photos can be a pain, so its presence is necessary.

Apart from that, the model comes equipped with a slideshow function. Preventing visual fatigue, this device can automatically display photos, which's a nice little feature when you're watching vacation pictures that, truth be told, most people usually take one too many.

To go with these two features, this digital photo frame from Jeemak will also let you adjust brightness levels, meaning that you'll be able to watch photos and videos in low-light conditions as well as with direct sunlight hitting right at the screen. As always, the 'videos' part comes from this device being compatible with an MP4 format, so you can watch personal movies and, in some cases, even full-feature movies.

WiFi Module

Of course, considering the price this product comes at, everything that we've described above is great but insufficient. To justify this price, the biggest 'excuse' this device has is its integrated WiFi module. As you would expect, with this module, you can upload and download media in a wireless fashion. Using the company's free Frameo app (available in Google Play and App Store), you can share memories without bothering with USB thumb drives. That being said, this model also has a USB port, so flash drives remain an option as well.

Memory-wise, the model comes with 16-gigabyte built-in memory facilities. When that's not enough, you can also add a <32-gigabyte Micro SD card. And, going back to the price issue, the frame's native resolution stretches 1920 x 1080p (16:10), which is nothing to sneeze at since most digital photo frames usually work with 1280 x 800. Last (but not necessarily least), this device will also let you put unique captions on photos and videos, so you can select the most important parts or just add funny little captions, making the photo/video more memorable.

Bottom line, with the Jeemak WiFi Digital Photo Frame, transferring, sharing, and displaying memories is about to become a whole lot easier.

No Such Thing as too Much

The NIX HD Digital Photo Frame comes packing more features than we've seen from digital frames in a long time. Putting the 'digital' in 'digital photo frame', this device will let you control pretty much everything regarding its look and functionality. But, before we start discussing these features, let's give the model's appearance a little attention first. With its matte black finish and the interesting little cutout pattern in the back, this frame will mesh wonders with most interiors, be it modern, mid-century modern, or contemporary. In the same vein, measuring 30 x 148 x 212 millimetres, the device should fit most shelves, coffee tables, or bedside tables without difficulty and without moving different decoration pieces beforehand.

Shifting gears, again, the model incorporates practically countless features. In a way, it is also its biggest downside as the booklet that comes with this digital photo frame does a pretty poor job covering these features. To approach the subject, from where we're standing, everything starts with the energy-saving motion sensors. Automatically turning the frame on and off when you come close or move away from it, these motion sensors preserve the battery charge, so you'll be spending less time recharging it and more time enjoying the frame's presence.

The Position is up to You

Moving on from the integrated motion sensors, what makes this device an especially good fit with bedside tables is the calendar and clock features. Needless to say, between these two, the model will let you wake up in the morning without relying on the smartphone/alarm clock and plan your day, again, without draining your phone's battery.

As per usual, the frame also comes equipped with an automatic orientation feature. However, this time around, this feature is even more useful because this device is equally good with portrait and landscape modes. Using the detachable stand, you can position the frame both vertically and horizontally.

To add more, owing to the 'detachable' part, this digital frame can also be wall-mounted. The hardware that you need to mount it on a wall comes with the package, so you won't have to buy anything separately. Besides everything that we've already uncovered, the most interesting thing about this product is the several slideshow transitions that it integrates and the magnetic remote control that will enable you to use the considerable number of features this device comes adopting from a distance.

To sum up, if you want something that combines form, fit, and function, you'll have a hard time finding a model that trumps the NIX HD Digital Photo Frame.

Full HD Resolution

The MELCAM Digital Photo Frame is pretty ridiculous. We've reviewed many similar frames but the model definitely stands out from anything within its price range. Its biggest selling point is definitely the resolution though.

Measuring relatively standard 8 inches in diagonal, the model boasts native full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. Considering that the list of formats that the frame is able to work with includes different video formats too, that full HD resolution will definitely come in handy. You'll be able to use the frame like a tablet and enjoy highly-detailed footage. In other words, this is the best digital photo frame on the list for watching movies.

Setting the model's resolution aside, there are many smaller details that contribute to the frame's overall appeal too. We can definitely get behind the image preview feature, for instance. In short, the feature lets you enter the preview page to check the pictures before displaying them. You'll be able to choose and browse through pictures faster than ever before. You won't have to edit these pictures too because the automatic rotation feature will always do that job for you, moving and rotating the pics to make them presentable.

As it is usually the case with these digital photo frames, we're dealing with an IPS panel here. In addition to the frankly ridiculous full HD resolution, the panel adds IPS' trademark 178-degree viewing angles, making sure you'll be able to enjoy the pics perfectly clear from the sides too.

IPS colour accuracy and contrast have always been the panel's biggest strength, making it possible to display portrait and landscape photos in the richest, most vibrant fashion.

Add Some Delightful Chaos

Setting these details aside, there isn't much left that separates the model from its competition. We have the usual feature suspects, including built-in stereo speakers, clock/calendar functionality, automatic power on/off, etc.

The digital frame comes supplied with a remote control, which is always nice. That said, the remote isn't all that practical. It could definitely use some improvement in the button layout department.

On the bright side, the model lets you change the Slide mode to a single-picture window(displaying 1 picture in the window), 2-picture window, 3-picture window, and/or 4-picture window. You can always zoom in using the Image Zoom feature and add some delightful chaos touches with the Random Play feature.

Long story short, the MELCAM Digital Photo Frame offers more than any other frame within the same price bracket. There's practically nothing (as far as functionality is concerned) separating this electronic photo frame from mid-range tablets. By the way, the model supports SD cards up to 128 gigabytes, so its photo-storage capabilities are pretty absurd too.

Small Portable TV Too

How good is the Tenswall Digital Photo Frame? Long story short - pretty darn good. We've seen almost too many digital frames but this thing has enough to edge out its direct competition.

What we like most about this model is probably its size. Boasting a 10-inch diagonal, the frame is not compact at all. Measuring 250 millimetres in width and 167 millimetres in height, the model will require some space. At the same time, the frame gives back double with its sizable screen that will let you enjoy highly-detailed, crisp, rich, vibrant, and overall detailed pictures and movies.

The model supports just about every format in the book, including but not limited to JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, MP3, P2, MP1, WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC, AC3, RA, AAC,RM, RMVB, MKV, MOV, M4v, MPG, FLV, PMP, AVI, VOB, DAT, MP4, 3GP, and TXT.

That last format means that you can use this digital photo frame as an E-reader. The multiple video formats (AVI, MOV, M4v, MP4, MKV, 3GP, VOB, MPG) mean that you'll be able to watch movies on this thing in spectacular fashion, especially thanks to the 1280 x 800 (16:10) native resolution and the model's IPS panel.

As far as we're concerned, this device is as much a small portable TV as it is a digital photo frame and that is not something we will complain about.

Any Format Will Do

Don't really care for the model's surprising movie-related capabilities? That's fine too. There's likely enough here to impress you anyway. Among other things, the frame is ridiculously versatile in the memory department. It is compatible with MMC, SD, MS, and SDHC cards. The only issue here is that the model doesn't support cards that go above 32 gigabytes. That's enough for countless photo albums though.

As per usual, the pretty much mandatory USB port is there as well. You can use that port to connect various gadgets, including flash drives. However, next to that USB port, the model incorporates a 3.5-mm jack. As you would imagine, this jack can be used to connect the frame together with just about any headset. This way, you won't have to rely on the surprisingly robust and crisp stereo speakers that the frame comes equipped with. The jack will let you enjoy quality movie time without disturbing nearby friends/family members.

All things considered, the Tenswall Digital Photo Frame is impressive in its own right. The size is impressive. The rich functionality is pretty impressive too. The supplied bracket is durable and reliable. The remote control will let you access every feature and function in two clicks.

Instant Setup

A problem that people often encounter when buying a new high-tech gadget is that it can often be much more complex to use than what it is replacing. In the case of a digital photo frame, this is almost always the case, as standard photo frames are rather simple and don't require any kind of configuration. If you're looking for a digital photo frame that isn't much more complex than a regular photo frame, then take a good look at the Crosstour 8 Inch Digital Photo Frame. This model is a practical photo frame that doesn't require any prior setup. All you need to do is insert the media containing your photos and turn it on, and it will immediately start displaying your favourite pictures.

Just because it is simple to set up doesn't mean that it is lacking in functionality. In fact, one of the features that makes it such a bargain is that it is compatible with all popular photo, audio, and video formats, so it can also be used as a tablet for playing videos. The unit is supplied with a stand and remote control if you wish to use it as a photo frame only, but it is also great to know that you aren't just limited to that use case. Although it won't replace a standard tablet, it can take the place of one if you want something light and portable to watch your favourite videos on.

Multiple Display Modes

Having said all of the above, we are sure that most people are primarily interested in just using this as a photo frame first and foremost. In this case, you certainly won't be disappointed with this unit's functionality. The unit has several different image display modes including auto-rotate, slide show, preview, and zoom functions, so you have your choice in exactly how you want your photos to be displayed. Another nifty feature here is that the unit provides 6 different styles of clocks and the ability to set the background of the calendar to any image you choose. The clocks also include alarm functionality, so if you plan on setting this up in your bedroom, it can easily double as an alarm clock.

A digital photo frame won't be of much use if the display quality isn't up to par, but in that regard, there is certainly nothing to be worried about with this model. The unit's 8-inch screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800, giving you near HD-quality images and video, and the viewing angles are more than adequate for this purpose. Multiple storage options for holding your photos and videos are also in this unit, including an SD card slot, MMC slot, and even a USB port. There is even a headphone jack for when you want to watch videos on the unit without disturbing others. Best of all, though, is the fact that you get all of this great functionality at a very affordable price.

What Is a Digital Photo Frame?

A lot of people who take photos like storing and watching them on a computer as it is much more convenient than printing them, then looking for a suitable frame and wasting time on hanging it on the wall. However, nowadays you can store your shots in a more comfortable way – in the digital photo frames. These devices store the pictures in internal storage or in an additional flash card. Technical characteristics of these gadgets allow you to view all photos in wonderful quality. Having such a device, you'll also be able to save a lot of space by throwing out old photo albums which won't be necessary anymore. These useful gadgets let you have a look at pictures of the brightest life moments anywhere you like - in your bedroom, kitchen, or even office.

What Features to Compare

Display

As display determines the quality of your pictures, this is the first and the most important feature you should pay attention to. As a rule, displays of digital photo frames vary from 7" to 15". However, you can find bigger sizes if you need. If you want to hang it on the wall, make sure that the display is big enough and pictures don't seem small at a distance. Still, if you plan to put it on a desk, a 7" display will be enough. Note that display characteristics such as colour rendering, resolution and backlight can be different too. Be attentive about display resolution as it provides the quality of your shots. It is obvious that if the display has a big size, the resolution should be also big. A good resolution will make your photos more realistic and allow seeing even the smallest details.

Features

As a rule, digital photo frames don't have so many features compared to tablets or smartphones. Their main task is to display pictures. However, all of them support additional flash cards for extended memory, and some models even have USB slots which give a chance to watch shots and videos via computer or TV. We would like to stress that ability to support different formats is a significant feature. The more formats the frame can deal with, the less time you'll spend reformatting photos on your PC. Built-in calendar and clock make frames even more versatile. As for display functions, there are frames which are able to rotate pictures 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Some models of digital frames have speakers which allow you to listen to the radio, music or even watch videos.

Design

The best design of your future gadget is the one that will perfectly suit your interior. Digital photo frames are usually designed in two colour - black or white. They can also be dull (not leaving fingerprints on its surface), glazed and with various ornaments. While choosing the best model for you, consider frames' abilities to stand both vertically and horizontally, an ability to change the angle of a slope and be hung on the wall.

Memory

In order to enjoy the portraits of your loved ones and to relive some moments of your life, you need to have enough storage space on your device. Some of the digital photo frames come with an integrated memory, so you can keep all the best moments of your life directly on the device. Other models include USB sticks and SD cards in a set, or you can buy additional ones. Normally, the frames come with a 4 or 8 GB memory sticks or cards. This amount of storage space will be enough for showing a huge amount of photos and short videos.

Controls

Digital frames usually come with a remote control or/and buttons on the panel. With their help, you can skip or return pictures, as well as control the video or the music (if your model supports that). Some devices also allow you to delete photos directly from your memory sticks, sparing you from the necessity to put them into your computer.

Did you know?

What Is a Screen Resolution?

Screen resolution is one of those technical terms that has been around for some time. While reviewing this digital picture frames, we also mentioned this pivotal factor. And in general, when buying any appliance with a digital screen, it is important to take this factor into consideration. However, not all buyers may understand what this term really means and why it is so important. That's why we would like to dive a bit deeper into this topic.

When talking about screen resolution, it refers to a number of pixels per particular area. Pixel is a small element that changes colour and thus, creates a picture on your screen. The resolution is always written in two numbers (800 x 600, 1280 x 800, etc.). They reflect how many pixels you display has horizontally and vertically. You can refer to the resolution in both ways (800 x 600 equals 600 x 800). The only difference lies in orientation (portrait or landscape).

You may notice that screens may be different in size yet have the same resolution. And even if one screen is larger, it won’t fit more of the picture. Because the overall number of pixels is the same, the photo will just look a little bigger. Hence, when choosing a device with a digital screen, pay attention not only to a resolution but also to the size of the display.

However, there are also cases when two screens have the same dimensions, but different resolutions. In this case, the image on the screen with higher resolution (the one that has more pixels) will look sharper and more defined. However, some elements (like letters and icons) on such a display will also look smaller.

Another question that many people seem to have is whether you can or cannot watch high-resolution photos and videos on a low-resolution screen. The answer is yes! And here’s why: if you try to watch a 1080p video on a 720p screen, your device will automatically convert it into a smaller size to fit the screen (720p in this case), because that’s all your gadget can offer. Such a process is known as downsampling. Yet, the image will still look sharp and defined.

We hope that these facts will help you choose the perfect device. Of course, there are some other factors, like colour or brightness, that will affect the quality of the image displayed on your gadget. Just decide what purposes you will need your appliance for. If you intend to work with graphic design, choose the laptop or the monitor with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 and higher). But if you want to enjoy some photos taken on your phone or simple cameras, a tablet or a digital photo frame with lower resolution will do just fine.
