The Mightiest Duck
With a cute little duck on the label, Dawn Original Scent casts the most unassuming impression. But don't let that logo fool you - this liquid dish soap is as strong and powerful as the rest of them. From the powerful formula also stems the product's versatility. You can even use it on dogs to rid them of fleas.
It also makes a surprisingly effective bathroom cleaner, provided you mix it in equal measures with warm plain vinegar. This way, the solution will be able to easily cut into the scummiest residue.
That being said, this is a dish soap first and foremost and it does its primary job as well as the next product. With it, you won't have to elbow grease. The company's patented powerful formula helps get through more dishes using less liquid soap. That means even though the product is hardly the cheapest option out there, it is able to do more with less. Plus, it is just as great for spot cleaning as it is for general grease and dirt removal. You can even use it to remove hair from the drain.
The only real issue we have with this soap is that it doesn't really foam all that well. Then again, given how effective it is, it doesn't really have to.
In short, Dawn Original Scent is easily one of the best dish soaps on the market today. Part of it is how effective it is. The economical part isn't insignificant either. But what really sets the product apart is just how versatile it is compared to regular soap.
Treats the Planet Well
This soap from Bio D is the best choice for the environmentally conscious bunch, the individuals who aren't just looking for effective detergent but also for the greenest, most ethical product.
It is 100% hypoallergenic and vegan. The formula is as cruelty-free as they come. Because of it, the solution is suitable for septic tanks. The Ethical Consumer magazine gave it Best Buy, the label that they only award companies whose environmental and ethical record warrant it. Made of 100% recycled post-consumer waste bottles, the product is as eco-friendly as they come. People with allergies and/or sensitive skin shouldn't have any issues with this soap.
Furthermore, the concentrated formula is completely fragrance-free, which is always a plus in our book. The only ingredients in it are an anionic surfactant, non-ionic surfactant, sodium chloride, and citric acid, the only components necessary to make it an effective cleaner, capable of tackling stains, dirt, and grease.
The only thing we have a problem with here is the fact that the solution is virtually translucent, so it can be a little difficult to figure out the right dose.
In conclusion, the people behind this dish soap understand the importance of treating our planet well and their customers appreciate them for it. As eco-friendly as they come, this product will prove right up your alley provided you're an environmentally-conscious individual yourself.
The Original Detergent
Fairy has been around for ages and millions of customers all over the world have been putting their trust in the company for decades. With that in mind, adding this original soap from the aforementioned company to this review was a no-brainer.
The price is always fair and their detergents always give you the cleaning power you can count on. More often than not, it will last up to 50% longer than the next best-selling brand in its price range. With every drop, this dish soap gives you nice, long-lasting suds and lots of bubbles.
Don't care for the smell? That's fine too. Fairy Original is available in a wide range of scents, including Apple, Lime, Lemon, and perfume-free for those who really don't care for any of these smells.
Dubbed Lift Action, the product's concentrated formula practically lifts and dissolves grease, cutting through it to give you that instant brilliant shine. The soap cleans greasy leftover food as well as it does freshly-consumed meals.
The only area where it slightly disappoints is the bottle. Well, not the bottle itself, more so the fact that it isn't filled all the way up, creating an impression that the customer is getting slightly ripped off, even though the amount of liquid soap inside matches the promised volume.
What else is there to say? Fairy Original gives you the grease-cutting and stain-removing power with no mess and no fuss. Capable of removing the most stubborn dirt, this is a dish soap you can always count on.

Squeaky Clean Dishes
With a subtle rose shade and quite a bit of orange, this dish soap from Method looks just absolutely lovely. Of course, that's hardly one of the more important aspects of soap but it is always nice when it's there.
Needless to say, the formula and, more specifically, the ingredients that go into it are a lot more important. From Aqua and sodium lauryl sulfate to coco-glucoside, Cocamidopropyl betaine, and the usual alcohol denat, there's a lot that goes into this substance.
Since you can always find the ingredients on the label or in the spreadsheet above, we won't be listing them all. But we would like to highlight the limonene (capable of producing an allergic reaction, so make sure to be careful with it), linalool, and the colourant that give the solution its look and smell.
All in all, these mostly naturally-derived components practically blitz hard-to-budge food, grease, and grime, leaving your dishes squeaky clean, sparkling, and smelling fruity fresh. Just make sure to carefully wash off the remaining soap from the dishes and utensils once you're done with them.
Method Clementine is a cruelty-free product that is tough on grime and grease and doesn't leave stains a single chance. It looks lovely, smells nice, and is overall a real pleasure to deal with. What's more, it is perfectly vegan.
Don't Sleep on the Smell
Ecover Chamomilla, as you can probably infer from the name, has a nice chamomile smell to it with a slight but noticeable hint of clementine thanks to the chamomile and clementine extracts respectively. Generally speaking, we like our detergents fragrance-free but we're willing to make an exception here since the smell is just absolutely lovely.
Having said that, we would argue that the biggest selling point of this product isn't the smell but its gentle formula. The plant-based ingredients, in addition to the milk whey, treat your skin the way it deserves - nice and gentle. Furthermore, the aforementioned chamomile extract does an excellent job disinfecting and eliminating unpleasant leftover smells.
Other than that, there's not much to it. The formula is biodegradable and cruelty-free as the company is vehemently against animal testing, which is always nice. More often than not, a single squeeze will be enough for a sink full of dirty dishes. That being said, the solution dissolves grease relatively slowly compared to most dish soaps, so you'll have to give those dishes extra attention from time to time.
In conclusion, there's quite a lot to like about Ecover Chamomilla. It cleans effectively enough, all without producing excessive bubbles. It has a lovely aroma to it. Furthermore, you can use the detergent with septic tanks.
What Is a Dish Soap?
Despite the popularity of dishwashers, a lot of people still give preference to hand wash. Of course, a dishwasher isn't always an option space-wise. So, if for any reason, you can't totally rely on a dishwasher machine, you do need a good dishwasher soap that would be able to effectively remove the grease and work kindly on your hands. The latter is particularly important as the difference between a quality solution with a well-thought-out formula and a subpar product can be staggering.
What it all boils down to are the harmful chemicals that you'll find often in these subpar soaps. From bleach to ammonia, there are so many things that people often put in their formulas that really have no place being there. That being said, we made sure to include only the safest, most effective products out there. With the help of our review, you should be able to choose from these dish soaps and figure out the one that best suits your needs and preferences.
We also propose you to consider dish racks which will let you store away all your sparkling clean dishes in a neat way.
What Features to Compare
The modern market offers a huge variety of washing agents and each of them has its own specific characteristics. Thus, the choice is not so simple but crucial since dish soap directly contacts our hands, kitchen utensils and consequently food.
Type
Dish soaps can be of two types: gel and powder. The advantages of gel-based soaps include convenient application, the ability to clean dishes at low temperatures, a pleasant smell and a gentle effect on hands.
Composition
Yet the main purpose of any dish detergent is to wash off all the residue from dishes, silverware, pots, pans, etc. That's where you may want to consider composition and active formula of different agents to see for yourself whether the one you chose doesn't contain any toxic ingredients. Such chemical compounds as surfactants, chlorine, chemical dyes, mineral salt, betaine, enzyme, alkali, sodium, Laureth sulfate, coconut and citric acid, carbamide, hydrotropes, sodium chloride, etc. can negatively affect your skin causing an allergy reaction. Avoid using washing agents with the high concentrate of preservatives and fragrances. For your safety, we recommend choosing a dish soap free of all the mentioned chemical compounds.
Packaging
Needless to say, a packaging affects the ease of use. Powdered dish agents are usually sold in cylindrical boxes with small holes in a lid. In order to save money and environment, many manufacturers produce washing agents in plastic bags that should be poured into reusable containers. Also, a huge number of liquid wash soaps are available in environmentally friendly recycled plastic bottles. Transparent bottles allow you to assess the sediments and the amount of liquid left. Most bottles also have a dispenser to admeasure the precise amount of liquid. Families with small children should select a dishwashing detergent with a retractable cap.
