What customers say about "Key Specs"
Tamron 100-400 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon - Black
- I've used many lenses of similar size and focal length, and for me at least this one hits the target perfectly.
- Such a focal length is new to me, and there is a learning curve, particularly travelling fast and light hand-held.
- This is a fun lens to use, and performs better than expected given its price range. Great focal length.
- I can quite happily use half the focal length for shutter speed. Focusing at such extreme focal lengths is new challenge
- Shitty focal length that works worse than my old lens.
Sigma 100-400 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens - Black
- The Nikon does beat the Sigma when it comes to image stabilisation and the maximum aperture at 400mm is f/5.6 on the Nikon and f/6.3 on the Sigma.
- Great size and build, sharp across all focal lengths and with fast AF.
- This is a short initial review for a potential buyer. This lens is sharp (for my purposes) at all focal lengths, especially at 400mm.
- It should go without saying that any lens with a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or slower isn't going to be a stellar performer in low light, so that needs to be taken into consideration.
- Slow lens: max aperture decreases quickly. It's f/5.3 at 125mm, f/5.6 at 155mm, f/6 at 220, & f/6.3 at 350.

What customers say about "Size & Weight"
Tamron 100-400 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon - Black
- I wanted a lens that wasn't too heavy, this one is lighter than the Canon 400mm F5.6L.
- Purchased due to weight difference between tamron and Nikon being far lighter and easier to carry.
- I purchased the lens a few months ago, i use for aircraft photography, it is sharp, superb quality, light weight and very well made.
- Too big to fit in my bag. I’m upset that I have to carry it in my hands.
- Large and heavy, which causes discomfort during long photo shoots.
Sigma 100-400 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens - Black
- The lens is not heavy for it's size, but even so I do miss not having a tripod mount which is the only negative point I would raise.
- Amazingly compact and light compared to other long zooms.
- In sum, this lens comes close, but not as close as I would like. It is close in performance to the more expensive lenses, and the compact size is a huge plus.
- If you do not use a tripod, then you will have problems with its weight.
- It is too heavy for continuous photography. Hands are incredibly tired.

What customers say about "Imaging"
Tamron 100-400 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon - Black
- It has a closer focusing ability that will be very handy me in spring and summer.
- This is a keeper and one of the constant user lenses for so many days ot, two bodies with a wide angle zoom and this, sorted.
- Manual zooming and focusing are low-geared and smooth. Control rings are wide and ribbed for good grip.
- When I've hit focus, image quality has been exceptional - even to see crystal-clear background reflections in a gull's eye at 10m. That's what I mean by fun to use.
- Focus was quick and overall I was pleased with the images I got. I did plan to sell it when I returned home but decided to keep it and have used it numerous times since.
Sigma 100-400 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens - Black
- The lens is also beautifully designed, and I am really appreciating the push-pull mechanism to adjust the focal length. It gives me less arm fatigue than having to turn the focal length ring.
- If you want a sharp, fast focussing telephoto zoom and don't want to break the bank, the Sigma is a genuinely great choice.
- Solidly built with very smooth zoom and manual focus. Excellent price for such a long zoom.
- I just didn't like the zoom ring's inconsistent zoom spacing nb 300-400mm was much shorter travel than 100-200 and 200-300.
- I was unable to get this Sigma lens to focus sharply on either Autofocus nor on Manual. Autofocus was hopeless.

What customers say about "Features"
Tamron 100-400 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon - Black
- The AF is fast and accurate, plus the VC, (their version of Canon's IS) is superb!
- Be careful with getting this lens if you use one of the canon new mirrorless cameras. Tamron state compatibility from firmware version 1.3 which is from Feb 2019.
- Super sharp with very good vc it can be fine tuned with the tap in console.
- The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellant.
- If you happen to get a lens with older firmware, you will need the very expensive Tamron Tap in console, to update the firmware.
Sigma 100-400 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens - Black
- After customizing the OS and AF of this lens with the USB dock, things seem to be working a lot better.
- I recommend purchasing this lens with the Sigma USB dock. While the in body Optical Stabilization (OS) on this lens is great.
- Both the rotating zoom and focus rings feel very smooth while offering the right amount of resistance so that nothing feels too loose.
- A push/pull zooming function and a new Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) allow for a more responsive approach to photography.
- Had a few OS issues in certain conditions which led me to pay for the USB dock.
