Night Vision Devices Night Vision Goggles

Hanging with Camcorders Too

The Bestguarder NV-900 are not just infrared night vision binoculars. No, this device also hangs with camcorders, letting you record videos and store them on Micro SD cards. The convex lens lets you convert the integrated 2-inch screen into a 4-inch display, enabling comfortable viewing. What's more, the multi-coated optics that these NVGs adopt increase the light intensity and reduce glare effects.

Needless to say, viewing and deleting photos and videos without pairing the binoculars with third-party devices is a comfortable function. Plus, the model even lets you stamp date, time, and GPS ID onto photos and videos, recording and retrieving the more important moments. Between the 8 large function buttons, controlling the device even without any ambient light is pretty easy. Having said that, the menu is pretty slow and the layout is not necessarily intuitive.

On the bright side (speaking both figuratively and literally), the 3-watt infrared LEDs, pushing 850 nanometres, will have no problems covering <400 metres in complete darkness. And, with the time-lapse function, the model lets you observe wildlife anytime, anywhere.

Without discussing unnecessary or obligatory features, the Bestguarder NV-900 will have no issues trading blows with the best infrared night vision goggles.

400 Metres Viewing Range

The Solomark NV400 bring about the most tremendous viewing range. Using built-in 3-watt LED illuminators that push 850 nanometres, these binoculars let you view objects 400 metres away even on moonless cloudy nights. Furthermore, you can switch between three IR settings depending on ambient light.

Not unlike the goggles we've reviewed above, this model adopts an infrared-sensitive CMOS sensor and lets you not just record but also view the footage you've recorded on the integrated 4-inch screen. Borrowing a page from the same high-end night vision goggles book, these binoculars' optics are fully multi-coated, increasing light transmission and decreasing glare. But, unlike the competition, this model offers 7X magnification, so you can dissect the smallest details 300+ metres away from you.

Incorporating a sturdy plastic housing, the goggles can withstand splashes from any direction and are fine with most elements. While the binoculars' advantages do not end there, the overall package should not be overlooked as well. To go with the goggles, you're shipped a 1/4-inch tripod mounting thread, a 32-gigabyte Micro SD card, a storage pouch, a neck strap, a USB cable, an AV cable, and a cleaning cloth. Between these accessories, you can store, transport, maintain, and use the binoculars hassle-free.

A Complementary Backpack

The Coolife NV3180 are less expensive than the two binoculars we've reviewed above but the specs are comparable. While these goggles' viewing range caps at 300 metres, where most applications are concerned, this is more than sufficient. With the 3X magnification and the 4X digital zoom, there's almost no chance you will find these NVGs lacking. To add more, the optical zoom is easily adjustable, so you should not face considerable challenges figuring out the best focal length according to the observation distance.

These binoculars can capture 1280 x 960p pictures, which is decent but nothing to write home about. You can, however, write home about the model recording footage with the same resolution at 30 fps, which is more than what you can say about most mid-range infrared night vision goggles and even some premium binoculars.

The biggest compromise here is the battery life. Consuming the same 6 AA batteries, the binoculars last somewhere around 4 hours tops, which is not great. The good news is that, to go with the neck strap, the 32-gigabyte SD card, the data cable, and the cleaning cloth, the package includes a nice little backpack, an unexpected but welcome surprise considering the already affordable price tag.

IP56 Housing

The Topnaca LLA422602 look tough and act tough. With the IP56 housing, these binoculars are protected against limited dust ingress and from high-pressure jets coming from any and all directions. Setting aside the military-grade housing, these night vision goggles are not especially different from an average intermediate model. Even the plastic that they're made from is not that great, which is a little upsetting considering how rugged the housing is.

But, moving on, between the 3X optical magnification and the 4X digital zoom, you can broaden the perspective and descry the most minute details on objects standing 300 metres away. Then, the 25-millimetre objective aperture and the 10-degree viewing angle will be covering more ground, making sure that you do not miss details on the sides.

While the construction is somewhat disappointing, there's nothing disappointing about the binoculars' battery life. The 6 AA batteries that the model runs on will give you 6 hours before dying out and 17 hours without using infrared lights, an almost colossal feat considering that even high-end NVGs usually peak at 14-15.

So, assuming you want something that lasts, the Topnaca LLA422602 is the model you cannot afford to miss.

Straightforward Operation

The Nightfox 100V is a cool name but the binoculars are not quite as cool as the name implies. However, they're quite cool when you put the price into perspective first. Coming at less than 100 quid, they're pretty capable goggles, as long as you're fine with the viewing range not even pushing above 100 metres. Because that's the case, these binoculars are great for viewing sports games, camping, scouting, performing nighttime repairs, and exploring caves but not necessarily great for hunting and wildlife observation.

On the upside, the wide eyepiece accommodates both eyes, facilitating comfortable viewing even with glasses. Limited to 3 buttons, this model is easy to operate even at night. Moreover, the focus wheel enables easy optical magnification adjustment, while the left button lets you control the 2X digital zoom. To its right is the IR button. Using this button, you can adjust the infrared output, switching between 7 intensity settings.

The model's straightforward operation is appreciated but the price you're paying here is battery consumption. Despite lasting the same ~6 hours that more expensive NVGs last, these goggles require 8 AA batteries, whereas less affordable binoculars usually work on 6. Nevertheless, at this price, the Nightfox 100V has almost no rivals.

What Are Night Vision Goggles?

Security, surveillance, reconnaissance, birding, night fishing and hunting, camping, hiking, watching sports, general nighttime navigation, there are practically countless activities that can seldom be carried out without night vision goggles. Using infrared beams, these goggles provide sufficient clarity in low-light conditions. Apart from that, they're basically glorified binoculars (usually with cameras), and there's nothing wrong with that.

The more expensive models can provide a viewing range around or even above 350 metres, so you can observe the wild without compromising safety. Even the cheapest night vision binoculars incorporate digital zoom and/or magnification, so these models can even compete with military-grade/tactical optics. Since most people use these binocs for hunting, they're usually crafted from high-strength plastic, adopting a housing that's not just rugged but also fine dust, with an occasional splash, or even temporary submersion at times.

To go with the binoculars that we've gathered and reviewed on this list (or the more expensive Swarovski binoculars), the hunters and shooters that mean business will also benefit tremendously from these spotting scopes.
