All Gloss Paint Needs Covered
What sets Harris brushes apart is not only the history behind the company but also what that history means relative to the products' quality. Normally, paint brushes are pretty limited in terms of what they can do and what they can work with. These are not like that.
These brushes cover all glossing needs, from painting the doors and skirting windows to dying window frames. What makes these brushes so versatile and flexible is primarily the synthetic filament bristles that are compatible with all oil-based paints. Also, these bristles do not stick together, allowing you to paint smooth and even lines without having to separate them from time to time.
For the most part, the handles are smooth and easy to grip so that you're comfortable holding and using them. That being said, some might find the handles too smooth, thus slippery, especially with wet hands. Whilst the handles are basically these double-edged swords (speaking proverbially), there's no downside to the bristles. Thanks to everything we've mentioned above, you'll be able to easily apply the paint finish and just as easily clean them from paint.
In short, Harris Paint Brush Set will be able to accommodate professionals who need to make sure the brushes do not leave any smudges and stains.
Most Odd Jobs Around the House
Stanley HOBBY10 brushes look tough and you can bet that these looks do not betray the product's value. Before that though, what we're dealing with here is a pretty massive set, packing 10 brushes, including two 12-mm (0.5”), two 25-mm (1”), three 38-mm (1.5”), two 50-mm (2”), and 76-mm (3"). Using these brushes, you'll be able to get all the odd jobs around the house done in no time at all. The smallest, 0.5-inch brushes will allow you to paint around window frames and dado rails, whilst the largest, 3-inch brush will make painting minor wall areas and cupboard doors easy enough. The plastic handles on these brushes are extended and relatively ergonomic, so you'll be comfortable using them, from the smallest to the largest brush.
Generally speaking, the easy-clean bristles will be easy to maintain but, try as you might, these bristles are not that durable and will usually start coming off soon enough. On the bright side, the ferrules come adopting marking so that you'll be able to grab the right brush width-wise without any guesswork.
Bottom line, with these 10 brushes, you'll be able to tackle and complete most household projects. Sure, they're not necessarily what you'd use for fine paintwork but undercoating, priming, and wood staining is something that these brushes will easily handle.
More Comfort and Control
Coral 31417 Zero Paint Brushes are all about quality, not quantity. Sure, the set is packing only three brushes but these brushes are brilliant. Using them, you'll be able to create the most pleasing finishes with water-based paints, emulsions, and stains, appreciating the fine-tipped synthetic filaments.
Set deep into the metal ferrules, the synthetic filament bristles on these brushes do not shed so that you're able to paint without losing bristles and picking loose ones from fresh paint. Besides that, the brushes are filled with more bristles than most, which translates into firm control and the ability to paint with precision. Sure, because the filaments are filled so thick, you'll have to spend more time and apply more effort removing the paint from the bristles but that's the sacrifice that we're fine with.
Even then, you could make an argument that the plastic handles that are adopting rubberised coating contribute more to the comfortable painting experience than the bristles, giving you a grip that's equally soft yet firm.
Taking everything above into account, Coral 31417 Zero Paint Brushes is something you should probably add to the basket now, even before you've decided on a new project.
Variety Goes a Long Way
Silverline 282408 brushes are cheap but there's not much about these brushes that makes them any different from the set's more expensive rivals. Sure, when push comes to shove, these brushes won't always be able to handle brickwork and uneven surfaces but you can say the same about most paint brushes. What you cannot always say about these brushes though is that they're featuring solid round filaments tapering from base to tip. Plus, unlike most, the brushes we're discussing here are also fitted with stainless steel ferrules that are not only generally durable but also resistant to rust and corrosion, so you can store and use them even in humid environments.
More than that, the set is bringing variety to the table too. What you'll receive is one 19-mm (0.75"), one 25-mm (1”), one 38-mm (1.5”), not two but one 50-mm (2”), and, surprise-surprise, one 75-mm (3") brush. Because the brushes are all different width-wise, you'll be able to go from painting small models to window frames and even small doors and walls.
Last but not least, the bristles are painted blue, separating them from most brushes and making these ones easy to identify from the bunch. So, provided you are not looking to splurge, these paint brushes will prove an excellent fit for you.
Looking Smooth and Elegant
Hamilton 23140-005 Prestige Set is bringing you brushes that look great, with no bells and whistles. The understated and mature profile is what separates these brushes from the much less visually impressive but, admittedly, also much more affordable peers. But the price makes sense here, setting aside the wooden handles are not lacquered/varnished, making them immune to moisture.
Even then, these handles are great, long and rounded but also slimming approaching the bristles, so that you can grab, hold, and paint using these brushes with only 2-3 fingers. Besides looking great, the handles come equipped with hanging holes, so you can hang them onto pegboards to not only store the brushes but also keep them accessible.
Pivoting towards the bristles, they're filled with synthetic filaments, tough but also soft and thick to enable excellent paint pick-up and spreading rates. Plus, these bristles but not shed and are easy to clean, meaning that maintenance will require minimal effort.
Before wrapping this one up, the set includes five brushes: one 25-mm (1”), two 38-mm (1.5”), and two 50-mm (2”), not much variety-wise but you'll always have replacement brushes and be able to share them and paint with a partner when necessary.
What Is a Paint Brush?
There are so many items, objects, and structures inside and around the house that are usually painted that even when you're exercising care and caution, you'll always have to re-paint them from time to time. That's where these paint brushes come in.
Using these brushes, you'll be able to paint window frames, skirting boards, walls, doors, decking, fences, the list goes on and on. Besides that though, these objects and structures are usually more compatible with specific paints, sometimes water-based, sometimes oil-based, sometimes emulsion, sometimes wood stains. Ergo, what you want from these brushes is to be able to work with most paints and preferably even be able to apply them onto varnished and lacquered surfaces.
Other than that, reasonable expectations would include bristles that do no shed yet are good enough at picking up and spreading the paint evenly. You can also expect stainless steel ferrules that do not fall victim to rust and corrosion and handy enough handles allowing you to paint with comfort and ease.
The brushes we've reviewed here are all compatible with these excellent fence paints. When they're not enough, you should look into paint sprayers.
