The 6-ink setup provides more subtle shades and makes the photos and labels that much more vivid. This setup produces detailed images and realistic skin tones, incorporating smooth tonal gradations and deeper, much more natural blacks. The output tray is motorised, sliding out and flipping up the front panel when you initiate any print job.
The tray's somewhat inconvenient to remove.
The Epson XP-8600 comes at a mid-range price offering high-end design and performance. The unit is packing features galore and will let you print whatever you want, however you want, wherever you want. Though you can use this device to print labels, its photographic printing is absurdly good.

Sleek Profile
The Epson XP-8600 can do just about everything that printers are able to do. It is not the model's versatility that sells this product though. First and foremost, it is about how compact, sleek, and portable this device is. Measuring 48 x 41 x 21 centimetres, the printer barely requires any space. You'll have no issues creating enough room for this device.
The model's sleek and streamlined profile, on the other hand, makes this printer an excellent addition to any modern setting. As far as we're concerned, the unit will complement any home and pretty much any office.
Setting these things aside, let's talk about the printer's many interesting features. As it is usually the case with these all-in-one printers, the model comes equipped with the CIS (Contact Image Sensor) scanner built into the lid. This setup works wonders for both scanning and standalone photocopying. You can print directly from the SD/HC/XC memory card slot that's been put behind the hinged front panel or use PictBridge and/or the USB port.
Of course, modern printers are not complete without a Wi-Fi module and this one obliges, incorporating both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct. You can also use just about every mobile/cloud printing service in the book, including but not limited to Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Remote Print Driver, iPrint, Email Print, Facebook print, and Epson Connect.
Smooth Tonal Gradations
On the paper handling front, the printer comes fitted with two cassettes that sit in the bottom that's accessible from the front. The downside to this setup is that the smaller tray for photo papers is somewhat inconvenient to remove because you also have to remove the full-sized tray.
On the bright side, the output tray is motorised, sliding out and flipping up the front panel when you turn the printer on and initiate any print job.
Needless to say, automatic duplex printing is available. You can access this feature as well as every feature (including Borderless print, Red-eye removal, Photo enhance, and more) via the large touchscreen display.
Last but not least, most inkjet models utilise four coloured inks to produce graphics and photos. High-quality CD & DVD printers such as this device, on the other hand, usually add one or, sometimes, even two more coloured inks to this mix.
In this case, we're talking about Light Cyan and Light Magenta. These provide more subtle shades and make the photos and labels that much more vivid. This 6-ink setup produces detailed images and realistic skin tones, incorporating smooth tonal gradations and deeper, much more natural blacks.
Bottom line, the Epson XP-8600 comes at a mid-range price offering high-end design and performance. The unit is packing features galore and will let you print whatever you want, however you want, wherever you want.

Sleek Unit With a Huge Screen
The Canon TS8150 is sleek, functional, and powerful. It isn't just a solid CD & DVD printer but a pretty great multifunction peripheral in general.
Appearance-wise, the model doesn't leave a whole lot of room for improvement. It adds up to 32.4 x 37.2 x 13.9 centimetres in overall dimensions, weighs around 6 and a half kilos, featuring an all-black housing that looks both glossy and matte.
Of course, part of that appearance is the huge 10.8-centimetre LCD touchscreen. It has a simple and straightforward interface, the menu is easy to navigate, and all of the features are easily accessible. The screen is installed on an auto-tilt panel, a nice little design solution that always gives you a comfortable angle.
More often than not, Canon makes quality printers. But the way they achieve that quality is almost always different. Sure, they have their staple technologies, like the FINE print head technology.
But they also shuffle things around and introduce new solutions. With this model, it is definitely the Photo Blue ink. Unlike any other ink, Photo Blue works wonders retaining details and reducing graininess in images.
That said, again, this is a Canon printer we're talking about, so it wouldn't be complete without their trademark Pigment Black ink. Using this ink, you'll be able to print documents with the sharpest possible text.
Rich and Detailed Images
Given that we've included this model in our review of CD & DVD printers, it goes without saying that the device is also capable of printing labels for your discs. Though it is just as good at printing borderless 10 x 15 cm photos. They come out in rich, high-detailed resolution and it takes the model no more than 17 seconds to deliver the photo.
It is a modern printer by every definition of the term, so the double-sided printing function is a given. That said, compared to most of its high-end peers, the device is a little slow on those. More often than not, you won't notice a difference but it can still get annoying from time to time whenever you need to print multiple 2-sided documents.
One thing that we really like about this peripheral is its ability to simultaneously handle photo and plain paper that stems from the dual paper feeders. That includes square 13 x13 cm (5 x 5 in) glossy media, the media that's perfect for social media style prints.
Like most printers these days, the model comes equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It supports cloud print, so you'll have no shortage of wireless printing and scanning options. But if you prefer the orthodox approach, there's also a USB interface and a slot for SD cards.
Long story short, the Canon TS8150 combines an elegant design with an array of practical functions. It will let you enjoy wireless and cloud connectivity. But its biggest selling point is definitely the model's outstanding printing quality, from simple black and white documents to high-resolution images.

Big in Features but Small in Size
The Canon TS705 might be the most well-balanced and complete printer within its price range. Big feature-wise but small regarding size, this is probably the most compact five-ink printer we've seen. Measuring 36.5 x 37.2 x 15.8 centimetres, the device will easily fit onto most shelves and desks, so you won't have to make any major space sacrifices. The unit also weighs less than 5.5 kilograms, meaning you'll have no issues moving this device around the office/home.
Continuing with the "complete" argument, the product's 350-sheet capacity will let you print for weeks/months (depending on the workload) without having to restock. The rear tray fits 20 photo sheets or 100 standard sheets, while the cassette easily accommodates 200 standard sheets.
Some find the printer somewhat difficult to set up. The CD tray is under the paper tray, which is the kind of setup that usually takes some time to get used to.
On the bright side, the device's printing speed is no joke. More often than not, the printer will have no issues pumping out 15 mono images per minute and 10 colour images per minute.
Of course, automatic two-sided printing is available too, so you'll be able to minimise excess paper and make the process as efficient as necessary.
Unleash Your Creativity
The LCD screen is pretty basic. We've no issues with that though. Using the Management Information Base, you'll have no problems monitoring ink levels as well as managing printer supplies and usage remotely.
The Canon TS705 uses five inks, adding Pigment Black to the standard mix. Using these inks, the printer produces crisp text, high-quality documents, vibrant photographs, and various creative content.
Furthermore, the optional XL and XXL ink cartridges let you print more for less, while the five individual cartridges mean that you'll only have to replace the ink that runs out.
Of course, standard multifunctional printers can do pretty much all that. What they won't let you do is use the Easy-PhotoPrint Editor app and the company's magnetic, re-stickable, and square media to create personalised stickers, magnets, and social media snaps.
You'll be able to introduce craft activities to the family's leisure time with the Creative Park and the Nail Sticker Creator application. These tools will let you create stylish, personalised nail art designs that can then be printed onto nail sticker media.
Long story short, the Canon TS705 does more with less. You can print directly from the cloud. You can print wirelessly from any mobile device. You can even use voice commands since the product is compatible with Amazon Alexa. The various creative apps will let you unleash your creativity and produce beautiful designs.

Combining Style and Substance
The Epson XP-6100 barely costs anything considering what the product brings to the table. You'll be able to print, scan, and copy documents. You'll have no issues printing CD and DVD labels.
The device's performance is absurd (again, considering the affordable price) and its space-saving design will let you easily squeeze this unit onto some shelf.
Measuring 34.9 x 34 x 14.2 centimetres, the printer's modest footprint makes sure that as little space is sacrificed as possible, whilst its classic, clean, concealed profile will make this device look good from any angle, look enough to complement most settings.
Compact and pretty elegant, the product combines style with substance.
Before delving into substance though, there are obvious downsides that come from the printer's nimble size. First and foremost, the unit's capacity is fairly modest. The paper tray won't fit more than 100 standard sheets, while the auxiliary tray above it will be able to hold up to 20 premium photo sheets.
On the bright side, you'll have no issues controlling this device. You can use voice commands via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, as well as standard IFTTT (If This Then That) scripts. The small tray above the output tray accepts CD and DVD discs, so the device will also let you print labels onto pre-surfaced discs.
Enhancing and Deepening Black Areas
Performance-wise, the product is too good for its price. It is able to churn out ~16 monochrome images per minute and 11 colour, outpacing the printer's much more expensive competition.
Setting the speed aside, this device will let you print much more vibrant content, enhancing and deepening black areas. You'll be able to produce crisp documents and stunning photos. Plus, the front-loading trays will let you easily swap between printing onto standard paper and photo paper.
At the same time, the device will let you easily print high-quality, detailed charts, graphs, and/or various business graphics. You'll barely see any noticeable streaking or banding, whilst the printer produces solid fills and gradients flowing evenly from one tint/colour to the next.
The 6.1-centimetre LCD screen streamlines navigation, whilst the memory card slot lets you print photos directly from any SD card.
In conclusion, again, the Epson XP-6100 is too capable for its price. In addition to everything else, using the company's Creative Print app, you'll be able to create different greeting cards, access various colouring book templates, and even print photos directly from Facebook.

What Is a CD & DVD Printer?
Among a variety of printers on the market, devices allowing for printing directly onto the inkjet printable CDs and DVDs, without any doubt, occupy a special place. These are inherently the same printers for producing photos that, however, support an additional function of printing on disks. If there is a task to customise your DVD, for example, to print a new wedding or birthday photo on it, such a printer will be an optimal solution. Likewise, these printers are widely used in advertising and/or for producing disks with different colourful images. Finally, they're just a lot of fun. Using one of these printers, you'll be able to make your disc collection unique and attractive. In this review, we analyse 5 best CD/DVD printers and their key features, so you can choose the most appropriate one.

What Features to Compare
Printer Type
Basically, printers are divided into two types: common desktop printers designed exceptionally for printing documents and images, and Multi-Function Devices (MFDs or MFPs) that provide a much wider functionality and act as a combination of a printer, scanner, and photocopier. So, if your goal is to acquire a machine only for printing texts or images on paper, select a standard printer. However, if you need a broader range of capabilities, you want to rely on an MFD. By the way, some of these devices handle even wide-format printing. Not bad!
Printing Options
Considering printing features, it's worthwhile to dwell upon cartridges since they matter a lot for the quality of prints. Depending on a number of inks used by a printer, colour properties of printed images may vary. Another important feature that determines the quality of images is the supported printing resolution. A device which prints with a resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi will offer extremely detailed and sharp labels for your CD or DVD. Among other key options, the print speed seems to be one of the most essential, it typically indicates how many pages you will get per minute (ppm). This rate can be different in the case of black-and-white or colour printing as well as the type of printed content. We recommend you to pay attention to models with a print speed of no less than 10–15 ppm.
Functionality
In Any Price Range
Cheap (Under £50)
Today, we live in the world where even the smallest children know how to use electronic gadgets, we are used to them making our lives easier with all the technological progress. Printers have long since become a part of many homes, including CD DVD printers. It now came to the stage where the interfaces became user-friendly and the prices are really nice. There are even cheap models that nevertheless offer high-quality images and high printing speed. The printers under £50 price range can have great design and show amazing results. Same as more expensive models, these cheap printers can also have 5 or 6-ink systems that will make vivid and bright pictures. In addition, they can be portable and connect to the image sources via Wi-Fi modules instead of wires, lifting some limits and adding flexibility to your "printing schedule". Cheap printers are usually single function, though, meaning they are only able to print. But nevertheless, cheap printers may offer lots of modern features like smartphone and tablet printing, air print, automatic any many more. If you are somewhat budget-strapped or you need CD and DVD printers both for home and office use, cheap print-only machines are a way to go.
Mid-priced (Around £100)
If you are able and ready to pay a little bit more to purchase the best CD DVD printer, there is a wider range of models for you to choose from. Mid-priced printers are usually multifunction all-in-one devices able to print, copy, and scan your documents and offering a great variety of additional tools. They often use high-quality HD inks to ensure your photos last for hundreds of years. It is not too rare for these models to have LCD touch screens to help the user choose the right mode or even to make some design. In many cases, they are compatible with all your gadgets, be it an iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones, various tablets, laptops, and PCs. But the most important benefit of such printers is, of course, the image quality. They will deliver a smooth tonal gradation and vivid natural colours that will stay the same for a long time. They are also extremely fast, which is perfect for when you are in a hurry and need your prints to be ready yesterday. With these printers, you can even be able to print your documents or photos directly from the social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. In general, mid-priced CD DVD printers and cheap ones are all more or less equally good in printing onto the discs, they differ in other specifications. If you are a busy person who values the time and money, mid-priced printers are what you really need.
Expensive (Over £500)
Now, there are expensive printers, the ones some people might consider a waste of money since they offer the same functions as mid-priced models, but the cost is much higher. They might have a luxurious design and produce the longest lasting perfect quality images but not everyone considers these particular specifications the most necessary. However, there is at least one other interesting feature still mostly only available for expensive models: they can use eco-inks that are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Traditional inks we use with our cheaper printers contain PVC resins and some other harmful chemicals, whereas Eco-inks make a lesser impact on the users' health and are therefore recommended by the scientists. Here's to hoping they will get cheaper with time.
FAQ:
Q: What are the types of CD DVD printers and how to distinguish them?
A: There are three types of printers and they differ in the method of printing. Inkjet CD DVD printers are the most popular nowadays. They feature a special inkjet technology that sprays ink droplets onto the paper surface. These printers are able to produce a high-quality 300 dots per ink prints. Since inkjet printers require fewer mechanical parts, they are usually portable. The next type is a Thermal printer, it is great for low DPI printing on silver disks. The principle here is that the surface turns black in the heated areas producing an image or text. The benefits of this type is a permanent and inexpensive printing that doesn’t need additional coating. And the last one is a Thermal Re-transfer СD DVD Printer; this one can print higher resolution photo with outstanding quality. These prints are extremely durable and waterproof.
A: This is a type of discs with a special coating that allows you to print any design onto them directly with the help of CD DVD printers. This kind of printing has more advantages compared to the traditional labels. First of all, printable inkjet media is less expensive than both special media and labels. Then, printing an image with the help of a CD DVD printer is way easier than trying to stick a label correctly. Finally, some labels peel off and damage the player mechanism, so CD DVD printers are obviously better and safer.
A: It is a wireless printer that doesn’t need any cable to be connected to the computer or any other gadget. Of course, they still need electricity to work, but this is the only wire you will need. This type of printers is very popular nowadays thanks to the unlimited access from any computer in the office.
A: The first and the most obvious benefit is that it is free of cables. That means you can save your money and time. You can print your documents from anywhere easily just by sending a document to the printer. Instead of plugging your laptop into the printer every time, you have the opportunity to print even when you are far away. The independence from the computer can be very convenient for people who carry a laptop with them all the time. One more pleasant feature is that you don’t need to be computer-savvy to use your printer. Wireless printers are extremely easy to set up and manage.
