For Serious Printing Needs

Do you run a small business at home? Or, probably, you live in a dorm and would like to share printing tasks with your roommates? If so, we bet you need a decent printer that will help you save much money on ink in the long run. The Canon G3501 can help you on that front - it's a star performer when it comes to ink use, which boasts an unrivalled page yield. To be more precise, this mighty all-in-one machine is capable of printing up to 7,000 pages in colour and 12,000 pages in black from just two black bottles.

As you may have guessed, this printer uses refillable ink tanks rather than cartridges. With that, it's fitted with an advanced Hybrid Ink system that utilises both traditional dye colour inks and Pigment black ones. What's also great is that the tanks have a front-facing design letting you track ink levels at a glance. So, you'll always know when it's time to replenish them and will never be caught off guard.

High yield aside, is the Canon G3501 top-of-the-class when it comes to print quality as well? Actually, it is. It delivers the resolution up to 4800 dpi, same as its siblings, and produces just as brilliant results owing to the FINE print head technology, which prevents the air from penetrating into the ink tube system and thus eliminates any issues with bleeding or jagged edges. When it comes to the colours, they get vibrant and saturated while white lines and edges remain sharp. Perhaps the only caveat is that its printing speed is a tad bit slower than average but this is a small downside and not a dealbreaker in the grand scheme of things.

Wireless Convenience

The installation of this MFP is pretty straightforward provided that you follow the setup guide carefully. The printer needs about ten minutes to do all that whizzing and whirring with the initial setup. And after connecting it to the Wi-Fi network, you'll be able to unleash its full potential. The printer is compatible with Canon PRINT app and PIXMA Cloud service allowing it to access online Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, OneDrive, Facebook and Instagram. So, if you'd like to print wirelessly from computers or smart devices, the Canon G3501 is up to the task.

In all, you and your family members or roommates will be able to easily send printing tasks wirelessly from their PCs, tablets, and phones to this workhorse. With a stable Wi-Fi connection and large Ink tanks that last for months of active use, the Canon G3501 is surely one of the best machines for a small business or/and whole family use.

For Creative Projects

Are you an avid do-it-yourselfer? Then you'll definitely like the Canon PIXMA TS5351. It's a one-of-a-kind multifunctional Wi-Fi printer that can bring to life some of your craziest projects. No, it's not a 3D printer, but the features it comes packed with are nothing short of impressive and will undoubtedly appeal to all creative people and Instagram lovers alike.

The biggest selling point of this printer that sets it above the competition is its unique ability to print on double-sided matte and iron-on transfer media. What this means is that in addition to regular printing, you will be able to produce stickers, magnets, and other crafts, including stamps on clothing - simply choose the design, print it on the iron-on transfer media, and iron it onto the fabric. Likewise, you'll be able to dress up your smartphone by printing your top snaps or fancy up your laptop with magnets and stickers created with this printer. The options are quite immense.

For an easy start, the printer comes with 45 built-in patterns to let you design scrapbooks, collages, and wrapping paper, but if you want more ideas, you can always refer to the Creative Park craft resource hub enriched with works by pro illustrators and artists. There you can find lots of crafts, greeting cards, and more.

Instagram lovers will appreciate the fact that the PIXMA TS5351 can print "5x5” and 3.5"x3.5" media that is standard for social media snaps. As for photos, it creates 4"x6" borderless photos in just 36 seconds, which is quite a good printing speed.

Snappy Connectivity

The next thing that differs this model from the others is the snappy connectivity from palm to print. It's fitted with a QR code allowing you to connect your smart devices at the touch of a button. Just take a photo of the code and the printer will connect to your phone to let you correct and print your creations wirelessly.

The Canon PRINT app for iOS and Android, in its turn, will let you effortlessly print copies, copy, and scan using your smart devices. The Canon app and the on-device buttons along with a 1.44" OLED screen make for an easy-to-use device.

To sum it all up, the Canon PIXMA TS5351 is a chic and sleek 3-in-1 multifunctional device that can get to grips with your phone with easy set-up. Owing to its ability to print on iron-on transfer media, it's an ideal tool for crafts and creations.

Well-Balanced Model

Sitting right in the middle of the Canon Pixma TS range, the TS5350 strikes the perfect balance between the quality and performance. It offers a bit of everything when it comes to smart abilities and prints impressive texts and photos, making it a decent basic all-in-one device for family use. Recently upgraded, the TS5350 model has a 1.4" non-touch colour OLED display and an LED status bar that is surrounded by buttons (navigation arrows, OK, Start, and Stop buttons). So, executing simple walk-up functions such as copying or scanning will be possible using a control panel.

The next improvements include an auto-duplexer for effortless two-sided printing and two 100-sheet trays - the first one is on the front, whilst the second one pulls out from the rear. The best bit about the rear tray is that it can hold up to 20 sheets of photo paper alongside the plain paper sheets. What is great, the printer doesn't stop at traditional 5"x7" photos and supports borderless photo format. Also, it's compatible with Instagram's 3.5" and 5" square photo media.

Design aside, this all-in-one ensures excellent output. Belonging to the Canon's photo-centric Pixmas, it delivers sharp photos with true colours and gradients. Texts also get well-shaped and highly legible.

Rich Connectivity

The folks behind Canon try to keep up with the technologies and make their printers support different novelty features. Take the PIXMA TS5350, for example. It's compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant services to respond to your commands distantly, using just your voice. Besides that, it supports standard IFTTT scripting which makes it possible to send voice commands without a need for smart speakers (through Apple's Siri on your iPhone or Microsoft's Cortana, for example).

Standard connectivity includes USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, and PictBridge Wireless for printing straight from compatible Canon cameras, which is a nice add-on that may be particularly useful for professional photographers.

Designed for effortless smartphone printing, the PIXMA TS5350 also lets you print directly from your iPhone or Android phone using Google Cloud Print, AirPrint, Mopria, as well as Pixma Cloud Print and Canon Print App.

To sum up, the Canon PIXMA TS5350 offers wide compatibility options and, owing to its integration with voice assistants, will surely become a nice addition to any smart home. When it comes to output, it delivers crisp prints that will surely satisfy basic, family needs.

Great for Occasional Use

If you're looking for an affordable all-in-one device for occasional use, the Canon Pixma TS3350 inkjet is surely worth your closer attention. It's an entry-level consumer-grade MFP that's affordable enough to appeal to any casual user. Although it's not the fastest printer we’ve seen, it offers a high quality of printing and versatile connectivity.

To begin with, the Pixma TS3350 provides an impressive 4800x1200 dpi print resolution with lower 1200x600 dpi scanning resolution which should be enough for occasional document or photo scanning. For easy control, the printer has dedicated buttons for copier and scanner, as well as many other ones for some simple configuration procedures. On the top, you’ll also find a small, mono LCD display that shows the current status of the inkjet.

Do note that there is no SD card slot for printing right from a memory card, but the device offers alternative connectivity options including USB and Wi-Fi, as well as mobile access options (AirPrint, Mopia, Canon iPrint, Google Cloud Print, and more). So, you shouldn't have troubles when printing or scanning through mobile apps and services.

Speaking about compatible sheet formats, the printer has a 60-sheet rear tray and is capable of printing on a wide variety of papers and other media, including square 5"x5" photo sheets. The inkjet doesn't offer an automatic duplex printing, so it requires your supervision for two-sided prints.

Slow but Methodical

The area where the Pixma TS 3350 shines is the high printing quality. It really provides crisp and sharp texts, and even can give laser printers a run for their money. At 7.7 ppm, it's not particularly fast but fine for those who are going to print text documents, homework assignments, college projects, flyers, or every now and then.

With the peak speed of 4 ppm for graphics, the colour printing is fairly slow too. However, the photo quality is worth the wait. The images get crisp, bold, and sharp. Plus, the printer can produce borderless photos up to 5"x7".

To sum up, the Canon Pixma TS 3350 isn't a workhorse printer for heavy use but it's certainly great for occasional use at home or dorm. It ensures high printing quality and multiple connectivity features for convenient use.

Incredible Value for the Money

The Canon PIXMA MG2550S is one of the cheapest all-in-one printing tools on the market! For £20 only, you'll get the printer with starter inks (black and colour), which means you can test it out right out-of-the-box. However, the supplied ink cartridges won't last long if you print regularly, so we suggest that you order spare cartridges in advance. If you want to save on inks (sure, you want!), you can get high-capacity Canon XL ink cartridges and save up to 30% per page compared to standard ones. Plus, you will go longer between replacements.

The Canon photo printer PIXMA MG2550S is a basic MFP that is good for printing, scanning, and copying. With a seven-segment LED display, it's also very easy to navigate. Instead of high-gloss black plastic, the printer has a textured case that is more resistant to fingertips. It has simple lines and smoothly curved edges. The scanner lid features extending hinges so that you can easily scan not only slim documents and magazines but thick books as well.

This home printer produces outstanding text-heavy documents and photos. And thanks to the FINE Cartridge technology, the prints boast vivid colours and deep blacks. We would like to note that the printer works through USB and doesn't have a wireless connection, but there's no USB cable in the set, so be ready to buy it additionally.

For paper saving, the model offers two-sided printing. And with Auto Power On/Off mode, you can save on your electricity bills. So, if you want an MFP that won't slim your wallet, this Canon photo printer is a decent choice.

Be Creative

The manufacturer provides the set of the applications (My Image Garden, Creative Park Premium and Image Display) that will let your creativity go wild. For example, Creative Park Premium is a service where you can download exclusive printing materials. You can access the service from My Image Garden app. This application will help you create and print collages from photos saved on your computer. Also, you'll find here a lot of fantastic postcards, calendars, cards, and many other templates created by professional artists. The app is easily accessible and can be launched with just one click.

What Is a Canon Printer?

Canon has always been associated with photography and/or printing since it's one of the most popular and reliable global providers of digital imaging technologies in the world. Founded over 80 years ago, the company specialises in such optical and imaging products as lenses, cameras, scanners, and printers, and has been the principal manufacturer of the print engines used in the industry-standard laser printers for many years, which speaks a lot about their premium standards. An emphasis on technology is the cornerstone of Canon's philosophy and the main feature that discriminates their products from all the rest. So, by purchasing a Canon printer, you're guaranteed to get a top-tier and future-proof product that will last you for a long time.

When it comes to the range of Canon printers, you get a wide variety of options to choose from starting from basic home printers to small office printers to MegaTank printers to professional photo printers. For this review, though, we've picked printers from the Pixma range. Currently, this is Canon's most popular line that mainly comprises inkjets meant for students, regular customers, photographers, and professionals working at home. To help you choose the model that will suit your needs, we have broken down the main differences between the best-selling models and gone over the most crucial features that should be considered when making a choice. Hopefully, you'll find our recommendations helpful.

And if you're looking for a more portable solution for printing on-the-go, you're more than welcome to take a peek at our review of mobile printers that will suit that purpose to a tee.

What Features to Compare

Choosing a printer can be a tough task given the sheer number of Canon models available for sale. With that in mind, we’ve put together a handy buying guide for selecting the right printing device for your needs.

Best for

First of all, you should decide on the purpose of use. For example, if you don't have massive printing workloads and are planning to use the printer only occasionally, simple all-in-one wireless Canon inkjet printers will fit the purpose. These models combine the functions of several devices in one unit which allows them to handle most basic jobs as well as cater to most home and office needs such as printing school projects, copying recipes, scanning documents, and more.

For a small business or home office, it'd be better to consider 4-in-1 devices with an additional fax function. Compared to other models, these printers usually offer the best price-to-performance value, offering fast and reliable printing for reasonable costs. Plus, with these printers, you can save on consumables since a lot of these models are compatible with XL cartridges.

If your work or hobby is related to printing photos, we'd recommend considering a dedicated, single-function photo printer. More often than not, this type of printer will lack the flexibility of multitaskers, but it will surely shine in producing clear and vibrant images. In fact, you can expect the quality of the prints to be much better than that you'd normally receive from (online) print services.

Printing Costs

It’s also important to factor in the cost of operation, especially if you need a printer for large-scale jobs. It’s quite easy to be swayed by low initial costs and end up spending too much money on replacement cartridges. So, prior to purchase, it's better to check operating costs, i.e., calculate the cost per page of each cartridge the printer uses (divide the price of the cartridge by the page yield). To cut down on cartridge costs, consider models compatible with XL cartridges.

Tech Specs

Naturally, you should also take into account such tech specs as PPM (pages per minute), DPI (dots per inch), and duty cycle. Although PPM isn’t really important for home printers, it may be a dealbreaker for office environments. Average black-and-white PPM makes around 15-20 pages per minute, while colour maximises at around 10 - 15.

DPI spec states how good a particular MFD is at creating high-resolution images, while the Duty cycle shows how many pages per month a device can print without experiencing wear and tear. Again, it’s an important number for offices but less important for home users.

Connectivity Options

Today, Canon inkjet printers offer multiple connectivity options including USB, SD cards, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and even NFC. USB connections are common for all printers, allowing you to hook up external hard drives or any other devices and making it possible to print files directly from them. If a printer has a slot for an SD card, you can also print right from your camera by transporting a memory card to the printer and then navigating through photos using its menu.

Canon all-in-one printers are also equipped with Ethernet ports for wired connections or Wi-Fi modules for wireless connection. Wi-Fi Direct, despite the name, isn't actually related to your home/office Wi-Fi network. Instead, it allows a printer to establish a secure connection directly between a device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) and the printer. NFC (Near-Field Communication) technology further ups the ante by allowing you to connect a printer to your smartphone by simply touching the device to a specified area on the printer.

Many Canon AIOs now also offer internet-based features that let you access photos stored on numerous cloud websites such as Flickr, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more.

Extras

The feature that’s beneficial for anyone working with documents is automatic duplexing. It implies printing or scanning both sides of the document without a need to manually flip the page over. The next useful feature in many Canon all-in-one devices is an automatic document feeder (ADF) letting you scan both sides of the page as it feeds through the ADF.

Did you know?

When and How It All Began

Initially, the Canon company began as “Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd” in 1933 that was specialising in optics only. But already in 1934, Canon's engineers invented the first 35-mm focal plane-shutter camera prototype. And within the next few years, the brand became proficient in creating camera products.

Today, the company creates a wide variety of products from the best-in-class digital cameras to calculators. Yet, it’s the office equipment that is the most popular segment nowadays. All that being said, Canon also produces medical machinery, medical imaging, and, even medical equipment for the eye care industry.

Name Origin and the First Logo

The first camera released by the brand was called "Kwannon" and owed its name to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Hence, Canon co-relates to this Buddhist Goddess. What's more, Canon’s first logo had his image engraved in the middle. Quite surprisingly, the company created the "Kwannon" and grew so strong from the desire to "surpass the Leica", the leading camera at the time.

Old Parts for New Products

Canon barely made it through the Second World War and was close to putting an end to photo manufacturing. That's because the company experienced a loss of most laboratories and found that it was unable to produce materials required for creating new cameras. However, the folks behind Canon came up with the idea to reuse pieces from old models and install them in new ones. This way, the company has managed to survive. Who knows, if nobody had thought of using old camera parts, Canon printers may have never existed!

Eco-Friendly Choice

Canon prides itself on creating high-quality products using eco-friendly technologies and even managed to head the list of the most environmentally-friendly manufacturers in 2007. Another important list where Canon appeared was Forbes. Actually, Canon managed to become 84th among the world’s 100 most valuable brands in 2016. The direct Canon's competitor, Nikon, didn’t appear on the said list at all.

Rivals

Although now Nikon and Canon are rivalling companies, they used to cooperate in the past. The Hansa Canon camera was fitted with Nikon’s Nikkor lens until 1948. Another interesting fact is that Canon and HP form a Power Alliance. Their collaboration started in 1985 and it still continues to bring good revenue to both brands.

We hope this information was useful for you and you'll keep discovering more about Canon by purchasing one of the all-in-one printers from this survey.
