Better Shadow Detail

Samsung 50RU7100 is an excellent TV from multiple perspectives and for multiple purposes. There are many little details here that we can absolutely get behind. That being said, the biggest contributor here is definitely the UHD Dimming tech.

Independently adjusting tone, brightness, and sharpness, the technology delivers better shadow detail and much more accurate colours. It is able to divide the screen into many smaller zones, separately controlling the darkest and brightest elements of every image to make sure the on-screen action is always vibrant, dynamic, and particularly nuanced.

Setting UHD Dimming aside, there isn't much here on the performance/tech side that separates this model from every other mid-range Samsung UHD TV. The 4K resolution, in addition to Samsung's proprietary processor, offers the purest colours, the sharpest contrast, and the highest brightness. The company's PurColour™ technology will be able to reveal enemies hiding in the darkest areas, making this TV excellent for online shooters.

Bottom line, Samsung 50RU7100 is the best 4K TV for gaming at its price point. The 50-inch panel will prove excellent for movie nights. The quality HDR and high contrast make the TV great for gaming purposes. The model is sleek and elegant. You can control all compatible devices and content with the supplied remote control.

3-Sided Ambilights

Philips Ambilight is the sleekest mid-range TV we've looked at. But as much as we like the model's aesthetics, it's not about the looks here. It is about what the TV is able to present. On the performance front, this display is absurdly good. That being said, you could argue that the model's aesthetics are its performance.

Simply put, it is all about the titular Ambilight tech here. Incorporating intelligent LEDs around the TV's edges, the lights cast real-time on-screen colours onto the walls and into the room. The 3-sided Ambilight setup makes games, movies, and music far more immersive. The already sizeable 43-inch flat screen will start to feel much bigger than it is.

Other elements here do not matter as much because we've seen it all before in other TVs for gaming within this price bracket. The 4K UHD resolution presents the most brilliant, detailed, and immersive picture. The HDR 10+ tech provides high-contrast imagery with rich colours.

On the other hand, the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos tech will deliver spacious sound with clarity, detail, and depth to boot.

In short, Philips Ambilight will transport the action beyond the screen. The TV will be able to immerse you in the on-screen action and make the gameplay/footage look and feel far more believable. The ridiculously slim frame will be able to seamlessly blend with the surroundings.

Cutting-Edge Motion Picture

As far as 49-inch 4K UHD TVs are concerned, Finlux 49-FUD-8020 is ridiculously affordable. Of course, the model has its flaws. The user interface is bloated and clunky. The colour reproduction doesn't necessarily compare to the best mid-range TVs. At the same time, it is more than good enough for gaming purposes.

Besides, it's not just about picture quality. The audio part is just as important. On that front, the model does not disappoint. Incorporating TruSurround HD™, the TV is able to deliver enveloping, immersive surround sound, making just about every seat in the room the sweet spot.

That being said, it's not like the model is a joke in the picture quality department too. Adopting Dolby Vision HDR, the TV has no issues transferring cutting-edge motion picture tech from movie theatres to the screen, delivering scene-by-scene picture accuracy and the most immersive video experience.

Just like every other mid-range TV for gaming, the model comes fitted with a built-in Wi-Fi module. It lets you watch Internet content in its full glory without cluttering the room with unnecessary cables.

To sum it all up, Finlux 49-FUD-8020 offers the best bang for your buck. The affordable 4K UDH panel is perfect for gaming. You can use the built-in Wi-Fi module or the usual RJ-45 Ethernet port to stream 4K content. The built-in 10W speakers are surprisingly robust.

Superb Audio

What is usually the biggest weakness in any TV? If you ask almost anyone what the biggest problem with their set is, they will almost always answer that it is the audio. Let's face it - most TV manufacturers tend to skimp out on the audio, often thinking that people will just connect their television to a stereo or surround sound system.

While some people do this, many just rely on the built-in speakers on their television, having neither the time nor the inclination to connect their television to an audio system. With many TVs, this results in a subpar audio experience, with many TV speakers sounding tinny and being underpowered.

The TCL 43DP628 43 Inch UHD 4K TV doesn't go this route. Instead, the manufacturer has included some of the best built-in speakers that you can have inside of a TV. These built-in speakers boast a total power of as much as 32 watts, which means you can comfortably listen to music or enjoy sound effects without the need for external speakers, helping to save you both time and money in regard to getting a superior audio experience. There is even a headphone jack included that is useful if you need to connect headphones.

In other words, your audio needs should be completely covered by this TV.

Great Features on a Budget

With as great as the audio quality is with this television, the manufacturer didn't go light on the other features either. This model from Hisense will appeal to people who want to purchase an Ultra HD TV with the Smart function, but have a limited budget. Despite the relatively low price, the image detail here will satisfy even the most demanding users. The Smart TV function is perfect for streaming movies, negating the need for connecting a computer, game console, or any other media streaming device in order to enjoy your favorite series from Netflix or watching useful videos on YouTube. One thing that does bear mentioning, though, is that the processor inside of the TV is a bit slow, which means that navigating through the menus or using the Smart TV function may seem a bit slow at times.

All that said, this minor issue with the slow processor won't detract from most people's enjoyment of the superb audio and video quality. Plenty of ports are also included for connecting external devices such as Blu-ray players or game consoles (PS4, Xbox, etc), so you can enjoy any of your favourite methods of entertainment on this high in features but low in price 40-inch TV with 4K resolution.

Crisp and Clear Gameplay

Toshiba 32LL3A63DB is a gaming TV first and foremost. The model has its flaws compared to every other TV on this list. The full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution will not be able to deliver the same level of detail as its 4K UHD competition. The 32-inch will likely fail to immerse you in the on-screen action as much as its 40+-inch peers.

At the same time, the size and resolution are pretty much ideal for gaming. The gameplay will look crisp, clear, and detailed enough. The size will be able to project the on-screen action without making it feel overly massive and distracting.

The built-in 2 x 6 W speakers do not necessarily excel at delivering spacious audio but they never fail to get the job done and make sure the sound is up there on the image level.

The company's Smart Portal is a user-friendly platform that offers multiple apps (like Freeview) and lets you effortlessly stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, and other sources. The Miracast Screen Share tech allows you to wirelessly transfer photos from your smartphone to the screen.

In closing, Toshiba 32LL3A63DB is an excellent budget TV for gaming. You can pair the screen with just about any console. You can hook up the TV to your desktop PC/laptop and use it as a monitor. It gets the job done on pretty much every front and stacks up really well to other TVs within the same price range.

What Is a 4K TV for Gaming?

TVs for gaming aren't that different from regular TVs that you purchase for various multimedia purposes. At the same time, the key parameters aren't necessarily the same. For one, the refresh rate is incredibly important. Regular TVs often come equipped with 30 Hz refresh rates. That just won't cut it for gaming purposes. You need at least 60 Hz to make sure the gameplay looks and feels smooth enough for an immersive gaming experience.

Apart from that, you should take interfaces into account. The right TV for gaming should incorporate the ins and outs necessary to connect your console(s) and every other gaming peripheral in your arsenal.

The size part matters too but, with gaming TVs, it is a little different. You can pretty much purchase the largest available screen and you won't see any downsides from the movie-watching perspective. Gaming, on the other hand, is a tad more nuanced than that. Panels larger than 50 inches will likely prove too distracting and uncomfortable since you'll have to move your head from edge to edge to capture every little gameplay detail happening on the screen.

Though these TVs usually come equipped with decent speakers, they seldom compare to quality gaming headsets. Pair these things with the best video game console(s) and you'll be able to enjoy the most immersive and engaging gaming experience.
