Pod-Like Profile
There are mean heaters. Then, there are these cute little appliances that provide some heat but not too much. The De'Longhi Capsule HFX30C18 is somewhere between them.
As you can probably tell from the pics, this unit is pretty stylish and even somewhat elegant. Its polished accents and smooth edges make the appliance look warm and inviting. The contemporary pod-esque profile is complemented with this leather-like carry handle. The handle elevates the unit's appearance and lets you easily carry this ceramic heater.
Measuring 19.1 x 10.9 x 27.9 centimetres, the unit takes up very little space considering its performance. In the same fashion, its weight barely reaches 1.3 kilograms, so you'll have no issues carrying the appliance using one hand. Its plastic construction is pretty durable, especially when you take the elegant aesthetics into account.
Setting aesthetics and transportation aside, there's not much here separating this appliance from its direct competition. Drawing 1800 watts, this ceramic fan heater is powerful enough to quickly heat up small spaces and keep them warm for as long as necessary. The controls are about as straightforward as they come.
You have two dials. The first one will let you adjust the temperature and choose between two heat settings. The first heat setting will draw 900 watts and will be able to keep rooms up to 30 square metres nice and warm. The second setting uses the entire 1800 watts and will let you maintain a pleasantly warm temperature within premises reaching 55 square metres.
Odour-Free and Efficient
Generally speaking, you purchase these heaters to make cold spaces warm (the most brilliant thought, we know). The unit's advanced ceramic heating elements are able to do this job just fine, providing rapid heating without that glowing, red-hot element bothering you. These elements keep the unit odour-free and more efficient.
At the same time, there's nothing wrong when these heaters are able to pull double-duty and work as fans too, which is exactly the case here. Using the summer ventilation feature, you'll be able to turn this unit into the loveliest, most effective portable fan.
Apart from that, the company's trademark anti-frost tech and double insulation will make sure to prevent any accidents.
Long story short, the De'Longhi Capsule HFX30C18 looks cute but don't let these looks deceive you - the unit is plenty powerful and will be able to keep any room and even most flats pretty darn warm.

Vertically or Horizontally
Despite the model being not necessarily as affordable as its direct competition, the ANSIO 2000W Oscillating PTC Ceramic Tower Heater makes a much more convincing case from the get-go than 9/10 ceramic heaters we've reviewed before. Of course, whilst the unit looks pretty good, the part that convinces first is the fact that the model can be placed both vertically and horizontally. Since this is not something you can say about most heaters, this one change makes a huge difference. Aside from suiting different spatial needs, this part also means that you can transport the unit without worrying that the new place might not be able to accommodate it. Also, placing this appliance horizontally, you can even work with mobile homes.
Needless to say, the model looks quite attractive, we doubt that many customers would believe otherwise. Its profile is clean, concealed, and streamlined, with almost perfect proportions giving the unit an execute aesthetic that will fit decorative schemes. Matching light grey with black, the appliance will mesh great with modern and contemporary settings, with the safety grille not just protecting kids and pets from injuries but also making the model look less bland. The one problem we have with this grille is that the PTC element behind it oscillates internally. In other words, the unit does not visibly oscillate, which is a little confusing initially, but not the biggest issue you can generally find with ceramic heaters.
Memory Function
Where the controls are concerned, the model comes equipped with an LED screen and a touch panel atop the unit. The screen's bright but not too bright and the touch buttons are responsive but not too sensitive. With these buttons, you can access the Eco mode, adjust the thermostat anywhere between 3 and 35 degrees Celcius, set the 24-hour timer (from 1 to 24 hours with 1-hour increments), or switch between the two standard heat settings (1000 and 2000 watts). Also, this appliance comes equipped with an integrated memory function, meaning that the last settings you used before turning the unit off are retained. Naturally, since this is not some cheap heater, you can always ditch these controls and use the remote, which is compact and pretty ergonomic.

Go with Ceramic
It’s important to stay warm, especially when the wind outside is howling like a pack of wolves and the snow is making traffic a nightmare. Such weather is the perfect chance to stay in, kick back, and turn on the Pro Breeze Ceramic small fan heater. This little gizmo will warm you right up and do so without drying out the air. This way, you’ll be cosy in your home without feeling like the air is stifling.
The Pro Breeze Mini heater uses a ceramic plate, which gets heated by electricity and, as the fans blow on it, emanates heat all over the room. This is a safer and smarter choice than standard glowing filament models as the casing doesn’t get hot (due to a lack of contact with the heating element) and the plate retains warmth longer. Thus, you can use in shorter periods and still get the room toasty.
Speaking of temperatures, the Pro Breeze Mini has 4 main modes - low heating with 1200 W consumption and high with 2000 W consumption plus two of the same but with the added benefit of 60° oscillation. The latter keeps the warmth spread a bit broader so if you have a particularly large room to heat, turn it on. As for the former two, the low mode is good for getting the temperature up over a long term whilst keeping the fat off of the electricity bills whilst the high mode is perfect for quickly heating up if you’ve spent a bit of time out in bad weather.
Worth the Asking Price
Admittedly, you might be looking at the price of the Pro Breeze Mini and wondering why it’s worth more than some of the similar competitors. Well, aside from the excellent choice of heating element, this model also boasts good overheat protection and tip-over shut-off, which means you won’t ever end up smelling burnt plastic or have to deal with a rug getting burnt just because a pet knocked the appliance over.
Plus, you can use the handy function and thermostat dials to get the temperature exactly where you want it without ending up with more power consumed than strictly necessary. And the ergonomic carrying handle lets you move the heater around easily without worrying about dropping it. We do feel like a cool breeze function wouldn’t have hurt, especially at this price point, but we’d be lying if we said the Pro Breeze Mini isn’t already a worthy product.
And that’s exactly what it comes down to - if you have the means to get it, the Pro Breeze Mini is a powerful, safe, and energy-efficient heater that will keep your home cosy and warm. Despite a few omissions, it’s one of the more top-notch models we’ve seen and it’s certainly up there in terms of speed and efficiency.

Toying with the Price Line
The De'Longhi 60c20 Bend Line does not necessarily bend the line that's drawn between more affordable and more premium ceramic heaters but, at the very least, the model toys with that line quite a bit and with decent success. Its biggest strength would have to be the appliance's overall appearance though. The low-profile outline looks clean, the dials in the front can be accessed with ease, and the stand will let you put this space-saving unit on an uneven surface without worrying that it might slip or slide. The light, white-ish stand works quite well with the otherwise black body. That being said, the same light paintwork also makes the stand easily soiled, so you'll have to wipe it clean a little more often than the main body.
On the upside, the above-mentioned dial thermostats are quite chunky, letting you control the temperature without grabbing and squeezing the dials like a madman. On the one hand, the model could use a handle. On the other hand, the stand that we've just discussed will let you carry this compact unit with comfort and relative ease. Measuring 33 х 22.9 x 16.8 centimetres, the model takes up very little space, fitting most desks. Likewise, with its weight capping at 1.9 kilogrammes, the heater enables hassle-free relocation, so you can move it between different rooms throughout the day without feeling like you're lugging something unnecessarily heavy.
Useful Come Summer as Well
Performance-wise, the model draws and outputs 2000 watts, making it capable of maintaining medium-sized spaces (~30 square metres). As per usual, you can choose between 1000- and 2000-watt heat settings, conserving energy when more than a little heat coming from the 1000-watt output is not necessary. Of course, the unit will also allow you to adjust the thermostat, choosing a more specific temperature.
The same standard features include a summer ventilation function. With it, the model will prove useful even during warmer months. What's a little less standard is the dust filter in the back of the heater. Easily removable, the filter enables you to clean the appliance in a minute or two. Other than that, the model includes an anti-frost function, protecting it from dangerously low temperatures, and the usual tip-over switch, turning the heater off when it's tipped over.
So, if you want something convenient, easy to use, and efficient, the De'Longhi 60c20 Bend Line should be able to fit that bill.

Easy Relocation
The BLACK + DECKER BXSH37003GB incorporates both its predecessors' accomplishments and the more successful functions that the company's competition has been implementing, delivering a pretty impressive unit at an affordable price. Surface-level, the model brings very little new to the table, and we're not complaining one bit.
There's nothing new about the carry handle that this unit integrates but, what's more important, the handle enables easy manoeuvring around the home. There's nothing new about the two thermostat dials at the top but putting them atop the unit makes them accessible without reaching behind the heater's back or without increasing the appliance's frontal length.
Speaking of, the model stands at 26.1 x 17 x 12.8 centimetres, making this bad boy even more compact than its direct competition. Commanding the smallest footprint among its peers, the unit can be carried with almost laughable ease. Besides its modest size, the subject appliance also weighs ~1.8 kilogrammes, furthering the 'easy transportation' case.
On the appearance front, the model looks very much alike most budget ceramic heaters in its price bracket. The chrome handle is a pretty good fit with the grey top, complimenting the black body and creating a pretty sleek ensemble that should mesh well with contemporary and modern interiors.
Where the model falls a little flat is with the lead. Being a touch short, the lead keeps you more tied to the mains than most would like. What does not fall flat (or fall at all, for that matter) is the rubber feet on the heater's bottom. Owing to these feet, the unit can be placed on uneven and slippery surfaces without scratching them or you worrying that it might skid or slide.
Sufficient Protection
In the performance department, the heater's 2000-watt output should have no trouble covering small- and medium-sized spaces (somewhere round 35-40 square metres or less). As always, you're offered two heat settings: 1000 and 2000 watts. Not unlike more expensive ceramic heaters, the model also comes equipped with a fan-only setting, keeping you nice and cool during summer. Aside from that, the unit also adopts an adjustable thermostat, making sure that you can select the precise temperature you want.
Protection-wise, we have the usual lineup, including the tip-over switch, the overheat protection mechanism, and the automatic thermal cut-off.
Bottom line, go with the BLACK + DECKER BXSH37003GB and you'll move towards a lightweight, portable, and effective model.

What Is a Ceramic Heater?
When it comes to choosing a space heater to add warmth and comfort to your home or workplace, there is a whole variety of types and a ceramic heater is one of them. Ceramic heating devices are fan-assisted convection heaters. Ceramic electric heaters are so called due to the use of ceramic plates or tubes as heating elements. When heated by electricity, they transfer the heat to aluminum baffles or fins and a fan blows the hot air into the room.
Being pretty compact in size, ceramic heaters generate a great amount of heat and warm up the room pretty quickly. Owing to a faster heating process, they consume less energy and are considered as one of the most energy-efficient and cost-effective types of space heaters. Besides, ceramic heating elements are more durable and less prone to damages caused by overheat and they are eco-friendly creating no dust, fumes or smell. Producing comfortable heat, ceramic heaters are ideal for spot heating when you need to warm up a bedroom, cabinet, bathroom, or nursery without raising the temperature at the rest of the living area.
If you like to spend time outdoors and want to relax on a terrace with a cup of hot chocolate and have a breath of fresh air even when the summer season is over, you might get interested in patio heaters that will help you create a cozy atmosphere near your house.
What Features to Compare
Heating Area
One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a ceramic heater is the space you need to heat up. The heating area each model is designed for and the unit efficiency directly depends on the output power of a heating element. A rule of thumb to follow if you want to pick the best ceramic heater is that the unit needs 10 Watts of power to heat up a square foot of room area. Thus, a 1500-Watt heater works great for the area up to 150 square feet.
Size
Created rather for spot heating than for maintaining a consistently warm environment in large areas, ceramic heaters are normally not very large and are quite portable. Yet, like any other devices and electric units, they differ by size and design that should be considered if you want to get the unit that fully meets your individual needs and perfectly fits into the space you need to warm up. For wide areas and larger rooms, it's better to opt for a ceramic tower heater distinguished by an upright cylindrical shape while a wall model is ideal for narrow spaces and finely furnished premises. The most widely used kind of ceramic heater is a small portable unit that can be placed under the desk or even on the table and is the best choice for confined spaces.
Temperature Settings and Controls
Another point of attention that should not be overlooked is the number of temperature settings available in your heater. Even the most simple and affordable heaters will offer you the choice between high and low heating temperature. Meanwhile, more expensive and sophisticated models come fitted with several preset temperature modes and often feature an automatic thermostat allowing you to choose any temperature to your liking and switching off the heating element once the set temperature is achieved. Many modern units also boast energy-saving modes and timers. All of these features are designed both for your personal comfort and convenience and for minimising the power consumption to let you save on your energy bills.
Safety
Unlike coil heaters and other electric heaters, ceramic models are considered one of the safest heating units. And for a good reason. Not only are ceramic plates and tubes less prone to overheating but also this type of heater is distinguished by a self-regulating heating element. If the temperature gets too high, it will reduce electric current and switch off the unit preventing overheat and the risk of fire. Other safety features include tip-over switch, antifreeze protection, and cool-touch housing.
Did you know?
Actual Ceramic Heater Performance is not Only About Output Power
Though the heating capacity of a ceramic heater as well as any other heater is defined by the unit maximum output power, you might have noticed that the same heater does not perform the same in different premises and spaces and sometimes even in the same room. And, in most cases, it has nothing to do with the appliance operability. It happens due to a number of factors, besides the heater’s power, that affects the appliance performance. The main factors that vary the heating speed and efficiency include:
Ceiling height. Since a warm air tends to go up, it will take a heater more time to heat up a room with high ceilings. And if the room is rather large, heating efficiency will further decrease.
Type, quality, and condition of insulation of the building structure. Poorly insulated houses quickly expose heat instead of holding it inside.
The number, size, and quality of windows in the room to be heated. Windows are poor insulators and cause significant heat loss. Hence, old glass windows emit about 90% of heat they are exposed to.
Overall tightness of the area in terms of the draft. If space is overstocked with furniture blocking the airflow and free air circulation, the heating efficiency will reduce dramatically.
Outside temperature. No house is 100% energy efficient, and homes located in cold regions will experience higher heat loss rate than those in regions with a warm or mild climate. Hence for cold areas and freezing weather conditions, you’d better increase the wattage from 10 to 15 Watts per square foot while estimating the heater performance.
Burning Smell Does not Necessarily Mean the Heater Malfunction
For a new unit you use for the first time, the burning odour is normal and it will usually dissipate in several uses. However, if you notice an unusual odour from the heater that has been already used and remained inactive for a long period, there is a great chance that the smell is caused by the dust build up on a heating element and your appliance simply needs cleaning.
The easiest and most efficient way to clean your ceramic heater is to use a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. The vacuum will quickly suck all the dust and lint from the heater surface. Under the regular heater use, clean it at least once per two weeks to maintain an optimal appliance performance.
Get the Best Pair for Your Heater to Create a Comfortable and Healthy Environment
Quickly and efficiently removing the chill and bringing enjoyable warmth to the room, ceramic heaters have a small drawback you would not notice at once but will eventually feel. Ceramic heaters dry the air. And though it might not seem a big deal at a glance, it could turn out a real problem if you use a heater on a regular basis, especially during winter season when the air is already drier. No need to say that too dry air might cause a number of skin problems, respiratory diseases, and even nosebleeds. To avoid this, simply pair your ceramic heater with a humidifier that will not only maintain the necessary air humidity level in the room but also clean the air from dust, bacteria, and allergens. Being a safe and clean source of heat, a ceramic heater will make a perfect tandem with a humidifier to create a comfy and healthy environment in your living space.
FAQ:
Q: What is the difference between convection and radiant heaters?
A: The major difference between these two types of space heaters is in the way they transfer heat. Thus, radiant heaters heat the objects instead of air while convection models including ceramic heaters suck the cool air, heat it, and then blow it back into the room by means of a fan maintaining consistent hot air circulation. The main drawback of radiant heaters is that they are hot to the touch when operating and warm up space pretty slowly. The next thing that differs radiant models from convection units is their scope of application. Radiant heaters work great for open spaces including outdoor areas and large premises with old windows and a lot of furniture. They will quickly warm up somebody sitting right in front of them. Meantime, convection appliances, be it coil or ceramic heaters, are much more versatile in use and are suitable both for spot heating and for raising the temperature in an enclosed space in almost no time.
Q: What are the main advantages of ceramic heaters over coil heaters?
A: Both types being electric heaters and offering a clean source of heat without any hazardous emissions or smells, ceramic and coil heaters are not the same. If you are choosing between them, a ceramic heater would be a better option to go for several reasons. First of all, it is very efficient. Heating up to the optimal temperature within mere minutes it converts up to 85% of consumed power into heat. Meanwhile, unlike coil units, ceramic heaters are much less prone to starting an electric fire. Besides, their housing stays cool during operation that, along with excellent overheat protection, makes ceramic electric heaters a safe choice even for nurseries and playrooms.
Q: Can I use a ceramic heater as the main source of heat?
A: Like any other portable heaters, ceramic units are not intended to replace the primary heating source. Designed for supplemental use, ceramic heaters will hardly be sufficient to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature in the entire household. They are most effective for targeted spot heating or taking the chill away in a single room.
Q: Can I use a ceramic heater in the bathroom?
A: Normally, fan heaters, including ceramic ones, are not recommended for use in wet or damp locations and you’d better refrain from putting them in the bathroom. However, ceramic heaters are known to dry and even overdry the air when used for long periods of time. Hence, if the humidity level in your bathroom is too high, you can put a ceramic heater there for some time, keeping it at a distance from running water. Yet, do not leave it there when taking a shower or bath.
Q: Are there any precautions to be taken before using a ceramic heater?
A: Basic precautions include checking the appliance and power cord for any damages, making sure that the mains voltage aligns with that of the unit, keeping the heater away from inflammable objects and water, and out from the reach of unattended children. Besides, never cover the heater during operation, always let it cool before tucking it away for storage, and store it in a dry place.
