The used Kaby Lake processors deliver more than enough performance for all usual fields of applications.
The EliteBook features an Intel Core i7-7500U (Kaby Lake) dual core processor. This is one of the most powerful ULV CPUs.
The processor should be more than enough for most user requirements.
The used Core i7 processor works at a base clock of 2.7 GHz. Thanks to Turbo, the clock rate can increase to up to 3.5 GHz.

The dual-core chip has a base frequency of 2.5 GHz, which can be raised all the way up to 3.1 GHz via Turbo Boost.
Hyper-Threading is supported, so the two cores can execute up to four threads simultaneously.
The performance of the processor is more than sufficient for common office tasks.
The laptop is quiet, does not get overly warm, and the Intel Core i5-7200U can utilize its performance potential really well.
The performance of the integrated GPU is not sufficient for modern games.

One of the fastest SSDs offered for this EliteBook.
Great solid state drive from Samsung company with capacity of 512gb.
The transfer rates are significantly better than those of SATA III SSDs.
The lightning fast NVMe-SSD ensures a responsive system. It is possible to replace the SSD but really unnecessary.
RAM work kinda slow, and need to upgrade it with 2 more sticks.

The two SODIMM memory slots support up to 32 GB DDR4-RAM, which make this laptop well upgradable.
The benchmark results of SSD drive are very good and the sequential transfer rates in particular are superior to SATA-III drives.
It is equipped with 256Gb's of SSD memory. Amazing value for a working laptop. It's boot up fast and has just enough of memory.
You cannot utilize the full performance of the GPU due to the single-channel RAM.
It is definitely not a gaming laptop with slow RAM memory and no GPU.

Since it is a business notebook, the device delivers many security features as a matter of course.
It comes with a Trusted Platform Module (2.0). Amazing for some security.
There is a smartcard reader as well as a fingerprint reader for biometric access control. In addition, HP's security software is pre-installed.
The smooth keys feature a short travel and a crisp pressure point. It's a joy to type on this keyboard.
The web cam produces images with a maximum resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It is obvious that the images lack sharpness.

HP EliteBook 840 G4 (2TM97ES) Laptop

HP implements numerous software tools and features to increase the security of the laptop.
Well protected device with fingerprint scanner (swipe-style), TPM, SmartCard reader, and a slot for a Kensington lock.
Very satisfied with the keyboard and even longer texts are no problem.
It is unfortunately not an IPS screen but is based on TN technology, which was already the case for the previous model and was not the best.
The individual keys are completely flat, makes typing uncomfortable.

The computer delivers a docking port, which allows connecting proprietary HP docking stations.
Three of USB ports is pretty decent for connecting things.
This laptop features USB Type-C port, which is just great.
The built-in card reader is one of the fastest representatives of its kind.

The EliteBook 840 G3 was equipped with a modern USB-C jack.
Happy, that it has both, DisplayPort and VGA ports.
DP and VGA connectors are very important for office environments.
Type-C is still just a "regular" USB 3.1 port without support for Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, or power supply.
The port layout is not perfect, because they are at the center of the two sides.
