What customers say about "Key Specs"
Mackie HR-824MK2
- If you've got your own set up, whether it be a full size room or a closet in your apartment, you absolutely cannot go wrong with these.
- Mackie monitors, in my opinion are the absolute best out there for the price. Outstanding sound!
- I wouldn't suggest these to mix with but they totally rock when it comes to getting a great A/B on sound. They auto turn themselves off and on. And sound great with a lot of power.
- I would recommend these to anyone looking to go from the hobbyist / $200-$500 per-pair range, to something more professional and accurate. These beasts can handle very high SpL's with ease.
- I'm not a fan of the passive radiator design and one of my speakers developed a weak tweeter after a few years.
Yamaha HS8
- I've got some little active monitors which are pretty damn good but these, these really are studio.
- Just got these monitors yesterday-hooked them up and ran reference music through them to test them out- outstanding at their price point for sure !
- They can handle loud kick/ snare hits without clipping and the mids are clear and present.
- They are loud without being too loud and are not harsh sounding at all.
- They are sensitive and I think the 120W power rating is plenty.

What customers say about "Size & Weight"
Mackie HR-824MK2
- Very convinient size, fits well in my room, good design! I can recommend!
- Great sound and beautiful design, it fits well into the interior of my house, the size is perfect for me.
- Bass is simply amazing, I heard music in a new way, I like that it’s not bulky and looks beautiful.
- Size and weight go well with the sound, it's top notch, definitely worth the money.
- The sound is beautiful at all frequencies, it does not weigh much, nice design.
Yamaha HS8
- Big, loud and clear. What more could you want in a studio monitor?
- The HS8's sound good, look really sharp (pay a very close homage to their NS10M ancestors), and are a great value for the price.
- These monitors are heavy, solid and powerful. If you're upgrading from 5-6" drivers, make sure you have stands that can hold monitors with this much heft.
- Overall, well built & sounds great, which is what I would expect from Yamaha!
- Upon receipt, were surprised by their size; if you are coming from a 5 monitor, these seem to be about twice as big. That said, build quality seems excellent, and he is extremely pleased with the results.

What customers say about "Audio"
Mackie HR-824MK2
- If near flat response and clear lows, mids, and highs are what you crave then look no further then the Mackie HR824 Mk2. Oh, and BTW, they look very cool!!
- Well, needless to say I was completely blown away by the deep, tight bass response and the articulate, detailed midrange was everything I could ask for in an accurate nearfield monitor.
- The high's are realistic without causing ear fatigue and I love the room tayloring switches for lows, highs , and acoustic space placement.
- I'm super impressed with the clarity and tightness of the low end in these monitors.
- These are amazing speakers for the price. Tight lows and crystal clear highs.
Yamaha HS8
- Not even set up properly, one on a chair, the other propped on a table full of stuff they image like you wouldn't believe
- The Yamahas are really quite something, especially for the $; solid, clear bass, crisp, detailed highs and open mids.
- Frequency response and overall sound quality is amazing. Well worth the price.
- The Yamaha HS8 a very accurate monitor. Deep low end, well defined mids, and crisp smooth highs.
- Imaging is spot on, I can hear the texture of bass guitar, I'm not experiencing fatigue, and I am certain that I am hearing some things that I don't even notice

What customers say about "Features"
Mackie HR-824MK2
- Mackie does it again and does it better this time. This new design is fantastic and the sound they produce is almost identical to my original pair of HR824's.
- The auto power on function is a nice included feature. I will be using them for mixing and rough mastering in a home environment, and once again Mackie gives you a lot of "bang-for-the-buck".
- The adjustable parameters on the back of these monitors make them very versatile as far as placement in your studio go.
- These monitors will give you the pinpoint accuracy and the confidence to make decisions on your mixes that will save you much time.
- I have recorded and mixed many records on them, and everything translates well to other systems and sounds great on the radio.
Yamaha HS8
- I love the room control and overall function.
- Because of space constraints, these are right in front of a hard surface, so I keep the "room" switch in the second position.
- Made with a nearly seamless MDF plastic which is proving to be far more accurate and open, if not slightly more abrasive than a wood enclosure.
- I don't have bass traps yet so the -2dB pad on the low end helps a lot to balance out the signal.
- This seemed to be the most well reviewed among the ported designs in terms of accuracy and bass response.
