What customers say about "Key Specs"
Synology DS918+ 8TB Desktop NAS
  • It’s a 4 bay NAS (that can be expanded to 9 drives).
  • Along with drives, I also installed a M2 NVMe drive for cache set up. Great storage.
  • My config is two 14TB hard drives. Good storage.
  • If you add large drives to a volume and then go back to add smaller ones, you can't.
  • Had same issue's with 4 8TB drives. Replaced same issue.
QNAP TS-453Be 8TB Desktop NAS Solution
  • All 4 drives compatible based on compatibility checker from QNAP. Good slots.
  • You can literally monitor everything, temps, fan speed, drive performance, cpu/ram usage. Great 4 slots.
  • I even moved the 8GB of memory from the five-year-old NAS to this one without issue.
  • Great storage for me, a lot of good slots.
  • The plastic drive holders are easy to use but feel cheap and flimsy.

What customers say about "Features"
Synology DS918+ 8TB Desktop NAS
  • It has ability to transcode videos on the fly, with very little CPU overhead.
  • The dashboard also features real time tracking of network traffic, CPU/RAM usage, users and storage health which is awesome.
  • The CPU you might think its slow, but it keeps up with my 8Core UNRAI Setup in regards to what i need it to do.
  • Of course a faster quad CPU also helps with more memory.
  • The unit ships with an Intel Celetron J3455 CPU which is speedy enough for Plex video encoding, file sharing, DNS, and more.
QNAP TS-453Be 8TB Desktop NAS Solution
  • It handles all with very low CPU & RAM utilization.
  • Packed with lots of options — RAID configurations, 2 Nics capable of trunking, apps to make it a cloud, a VPN server.
  • Currently I’m running a set of disks of mixed brands in a RAID 5 configuration and the performance is still quite good internally.
  • Has RAID5 with storage pools and thin provisioning, RAID scrubbing/maint scheduler.
  • Ram usage was at 80% and CPU usage was at 50/60% constantly with only one hhd installed.

What customers say about "Interfaces"
Synology DS918+ 8TB Desktop NAS
  • You can add whatever you like to the USB port and chug right along.
  • It has 2 USB ports on the DS918+, one front and one back of the unit.
  • With power supply monitor and USB backup you’re already out.
  • Easy to setup on my home network. Great connectivity.
  • Just two LAN ports (I'd prefer 4).
QNAP TS-453Be 8TB Desktop NAS Solution
  • Using this at home since it supports 4K HDMI and Plex hardware accelerated streaming.
  • Most of the softwares are user friendly. Good conectivity.
  • Great connect. Good storage. Good memory. Fast speed.
  • Trying to access USB attached external storage will crash your files system and make your external drive unusable.
  • HDMI support was mediocre, largest problem I had was it partitioned a 128GB disk for use in the storage pool.
